The Head of Technical in a broadcast environment is responsible for overseeing the smooth and efficient operation of all technical functions within the studio, transmission sites and across related facilities. This role requires leadership and management skills, in-depth technical knowledge, and the ability to ensure all technical systems operate effectively.Duties • Lead, mentor, and motivate the technical team (engineers, technicians, STOs, plumbers, electricians) to ensure high levels of performance, safety, and professionalism.• Ensure offices, studio and broadcast facilities comply with all health and safety regulations, including fire safety, equipment handling, and environmental standards. • Regularly assess staff performance, provide feedback, and address any issues related to performance or equipment handling.• Oversee the distribution of live and pre-recorded content via terrestrial, satellite, fiber or digital transmission systems while ensuring quality, reliability, and minimal downtime. • Ensure that transmission meets regulatory standards and guidelines, including adherence to broadcast standards, signal integrity, and encryption protocols. • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure that transmission can continue seamlessly in the event of equipment failure or power outages. • Develop and implement strategies to reduce energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable and safe working environment for staff and equipment.• Develop and manage the technical budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions for equipment acquisition, maintenance, and operational expenses.• Regularly assess technical risks related to broadcast operations, including potential system failures, power interruptions, and other disruptions, and develop proactive solutions.• Ensure that all technical functions are covered with contingency plans in case of critical failures, and maintain uptime as much as possible.
