I am a Research Team Leader in the Natural Systems Modelling group at Data61. My expertise lies in computational modelling, with extensive experience in computational solid mechanics and physics-based modelling. I am currently leading two main research portfolios in the team:* Evacuation modelling (see also link to our external website below). My expertise lies in computational modelling, with extensive experience in computational solid mechanics and physics-based modelling. I am currently leading two main research portfolios in the team:* Evacuation modelling (see also link to our external website below). Firstly, I am the lead scientist of the CSIRO software PiXIE (see website below) with applications to crowd dynamics and evacuation. Secondly, I have been leading commercial bushfire evacuation modelling projects which has led to the development of an award-winning Decision Support System. This work has been carried out in collaboration with Emergency Management Victoria, RMIT, Surf Coast Shire with financial support from the Department of Premier and Cabinet.* Computational Modelling of landslides. This is a work in collaboration with two Australian Universities, Monash University and La Trobe University and involves the development of both analytical and numerical approaches to study the mechanics of landslides. • Csiro
Research Scientist And Senior Research Scientist
    Csiro Dec 2010 - Jun 2013
    Melbourne, Australia
I contributed my expertise in computational solid mechanics to multiple research and commercially focused projects in multiple application domains including mining, manufacturing, food and nutrition, civil engineering and environmental science.See my papers for an overview of this research.
  • Csiro
    Research Fellow
    Csiro Oct 2007 - Dec 2010
    Melbourne, Australia
I worked on the multiscale modelling of bulk nanomaterials and developed computational models of Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) processes. I also studied deformation mechanisms in nanomaterials using a combination of analytical approaches and simulations (molecular dynamics, finite element and mesh free methods).See links below for some of my papers on this work.
  • Monash University
    Research Fellow
    Monash University Jan 2005 - Oct 2007
    Melbourne, Australia
Contributed to the particle-in-cell, finite element code for Geodynamics Underworld (http://www.underworldcode.org/), particularly to develop plastic models for the deformation of the lithosphere. I also used Underworld to simulate the deformation of granular materials. See links below for some of my publications on this work.
  • University Of Franche-Comté
    Phd Student
    University Of Franche-Comté 2000 - 2004
    Besançon Area, France
I developed the finite element software Blankform, in partnership with a French company Auge Decoupage, to simulate the blanking process. The model was based on an updated Lagrangian formulation and accounted for large strain plasticity, damage and failure in metallic materials. A new model to predict the onset and propagation of a macroscopic crack within a finite element mesh was proposed.See links below for my thesis (in French) and my most relevant paper on this work.
