Prof. Dr.-Ing. Vincent Lorentz (MBA) obtained his Dipl.-Ing. Degree in physics from the National High School for Higher Education in Physics of Strasbourg (Télécom Phy-sique Strasbourg, former École Nationale Supérieure de Physique de Strasbourg) in France in 2003, and a Master’s Degree in microelectronics from the University of Stras-bourg in the same year. He joined the Fraunhofer IISB in Erlangen, Germany, in 2003 and received his PhD Degree in Electronic Engineering under joint supervision of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany and of the University of Strasbourg in France in 2008. In 2010, he founded the research group “Battery Systems” in the “Power Electronics” department at Fraunhofer IISB, and in 2013, he received his Master of Business Administra-tion (MBA) Degree from the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 2015, he set up the foxBMS® project, which is an open-source battery man-agement system platform aimed to support industry and academia by the electrification of mobile and stationary applications by using electric energy storage systems. In 2018, he founded the department “Intelligent Energy Systems” that he is leading. In 2022, he was appointed full professor and founded the university chair for “Electronics for electrical energy storage” at the University of Bayreuth in Germany. His activities focus on electronic hardware and embedded software for electrical energy storage systems like batteries, supercaps, and fuel cells, especially aimed at being used in battery supplied electric vehicles (i.e., road vehicles, watercraft, aircraft, and spacecraft) and stationary electrical energy storage systems for renewable energies.
