Case Manager/Recruitment Specialist
Worked as a Case Manager for the Base Realignment and Closure program and Job Developer for the Senior Community Service Employment Program helped me to assist customers in securing employment. As a Case Manager for the Base Realignment and Closure Program, which is a federally funded program designed to provide occupational training and job search assistance to civilian employees at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for those employees who lost their jobs. In this position, I spoke on the telephones, emailed, and recruited customers from Walter Reed Army Medical Center who wanted to go back to school to upgrade their job skills and had each participant to bring in their documents such as their social security card, drivers’ license, birth certificate, tax documents, and pay stubs to verify information on our dcnetworks.org web site. If some of the customers wanted to apply for jobs only, their process was to only register and upload their resume to the dcnetworks.org website and begin reviewing positions online. Once these job seekers have register on line, I would schedule to meet once a week to go over their resume and talk about their skill set. After I have determined there skills by reviewing their resume, we talk about the type of jobs that they will be best qualified to perform. The resident will be asked to print out the number of jobs that they have an interest in pursuing and talk about the skills they have to perform the job. Each applicant will be asked to submit four job searches per week, with the option to submit more, provided that they revise their resume to fit the job duties for each position. Some of our clients will have no experience using a computer but the District of Columbia has free computer courses given at the American Job Center in which residents will be enrolled.
Staff Assistant
Ability to work effectively as a team member and with customers in the Base Realignment and Closure Program, which is a federal funded program designed to provide occupational training and job search assistance to civilian employees at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for those employees who lost their jobs. Reaching out to the local community to help employ residents. Help plan career fairs for dislocated military base workers in the District by scheduling meetings with employers with job openings, help select a suitable hotel for the event, revise clients’ resumes, make copies of the sign-in sheets, and the District of Columbia Registration forms. Demonstrate problem solving skills and teamwork abilities to be proactive for citizens. Provided administrative support to the Associate Director of Special Programs, by organizing her various notebooks that she oversees like the Senior Community Service Employment Program, Rapid Respond, and the Base Realignment and Closure Program. Worked at keeping the Associate Director abreast of the different events taking place at the Office.
Job Developer- Senior Community Service Employment Program
As the Job Developer for the Senior Community Service Employment Program that works for the District seniors 55 and older, I prepared our residents to enter this new job market with one-on-one meetings and information from the District of Columbia Occupational Projections 2010 to 2020 form from the D.C. Labor Market Office. This document outlines the different occupational titles, annual job openings, the number of positions that will be replaced and the number of new staff added in the next ten years. Our goal from this data will educate our senior population about the average salary for jobs and education experience needed to apply for employment. In one meeting, the older workers were upset with the fact that everyone had to apply for a job online. Since most of these workers found employment looking through the newspapers and by networking with friends and family, I had to encourage the group that computers and the internet would be extremely helpful in finding jobs. Each person had to schedule a time each week to discuss the positions they had applied too using a computer and the internet. I had to work very closely with our older workers to ensure them that the internet was the best way to secure employment. The meetings with each senior were a battle each time because of their lack of skill using a computer as well as navigating the internet. Residents were enrolled in computer courses to slowly walk our seniors through the process of understanding how to use a computer and the internet to do job searches. We had to pay for a computer company to schedule some time with our older workers and teach them how to use a computer and surf the internet for job. The computer course was ninety days long to help educate our seniors on typing on a computer using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
