Undertaking Environmental Impact assessment and Environmental Audits for private Investor/developers

At NARIGP-Makueni the following are some of my main duties and responsibilities.• Proposal screening to identify projects to be subjected to Environmental Impact Assessment studies.• Conducting Environmental Impact Assessment studies for projects qualifying for funding by World Bank.• Development of Environmental Management plans as well as Health and Safety plans for projects to be implemented.• Developing and ensuring compliance of control measures within project sites.• Training funded groups, Government officers and Contractors on Environmental health and safety and also on social safeguards prior to project implementation.• Performing continuous inspections for ongoing projects to ensure compliance to Environmental health and safety plans.• Conducting Environmental Audits for completed projects.• Designing and erecting strategically, safety warning signages within project sites.• Conducting regular project site tours to identify and correct/rectify any unsafe acts or conditions.• Investigating accident or near miss incidents within project sites and acting upon to avoid re-occurrence.

While in office as the Sub-County Environment Officer, my duties included:-• Co-ordinating, organizing, controlling, planning, directing and implementing all environmental programmes, projects, strategic plans and activities at the sub county level. • Assisting in reviewing of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Audit (EA) reports submitted by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). • Organizing inspections to ensure compliance and enforcement of appropriate environmental policies, laws and regulations at the sub county level. • General office administration work, asset management and handling environmental complains from the public within Sub County. • Undertaking public environmental education on environmental conservation and management, climate change, hygiene & sanitation, agro-forestry, and disaster risk reduction. • Providing secretarial services to the Sub County Sand Management Committee and offered technical advice to the Sub County and Ward Sand Management Committees and monitoring sand harvesting. • Initiating linkages and collaboration among environmental stakeholders at the sub county level. • Preparation of sub county work plans, generation of proposals on strategies for proper environmental management and appropriate response to emerging environmental issues. • Facilitation and promotion of citizenry participation in management of environmental affairs. • Supervision of all farm forestry activities including harvesting and transportation licensing.
