Medical Device’s Lab is a research unit located on the UCT Health Sciences campus that conducts research and development of medical devices.• Volunteered to take on a project to develop a low-cost 3D printed anal dilator that can be used in the post operative care of paediatric patients that have undergone surgery to correct anorectal malformations or other colorectal diseases such as Hirschsprung disease. (Class I medical device)• Independently spearheaded the projects end to end development from initial problem statement to implementation. Under the supervision of Prof Sudesh Sivarasu and Sarah McEwan.• Successfully produced working prototype to the satisfaction of the paediatric surgeon assigned to project, with expressed intent to take device to clinical trails stage of regulatory approval.
