a. I act as Managing Director (MD) in the absence of the substantive MD and have done so on several occasions. Responsibilities include exercising the powers conferred on the MD by the Board, e.g. managing the company to avoid any damage to the reputation of the Shell Brand and guiding the Management to achieve the objects set in both the short and long term.b. I represented West Africa Regional Finance Controller in London to draft the first Shell Oil Products Africa (SOPAF) Manual of Authority – London (October 2003).c. Personally motivated my staff as Treasurer by teaching them for free to write their professional exams. Two have since qualified as Chartred Accounants.

The audits independently reviewed business objectives and identified what risks may impact delivery of these objectives and checked measures in place to manage these risks to underpin delivery of the objectives. Part of the process involved review of short to long term strategic plans to ensure that a fit-for-purpose risk-based control framework was in place, designed to provide reasonable assurance of meeting business objectives, appropriately resourced, operating effectively and based on relevant business objectives. I have audited Oil Products, Chemicals, and Exploration and Production (EP). My role in these audits varied from Lead Auditor, Sub-Lead and Audit Resource, thus I related with fellow auditors in different capacities. The audits covered the following areas:In Downstream; General Controls, SOX Finance, Operating Company Finance Controls, Contracting and Procurement, Retail, Lubricants, Manufacturing, Supply and Distribution, LPG, Fuels and Bitumen, Human Resources, Management Information, Credit Control, Global Trading and Joint Venture/Subsidiary Governance. In Chemicals; I audited the Production Business Unit. In EP; Finance Readiness, Payroll Implementation and EP Blueprint Embedding. The above audits were performed in various locations; North and South America, Europe and Africa.

I managed the JD Edwards Financial Accounting system. I received 3 consecutive bonuses (one month salary in each case) from Go live of JD Edwards Financials Re-implementation in Ghana in January 2002.I successfully managed and coordinated a diversified team of consultants and local staff to re-implement JD Edwards Financial package in Shell Ghana between September 2001 and March 2002. We passed the Health Check and went live January 2, 2003 as planned. This involved supervising activities of the re-implementation and ensuring that targets were achieved timely. I planned and coordinated the re-training of all staff in the JDE software. I liaised with management and gave constant feedback on the project. Also as Focal point for the General Ledger (GL) module, I re-designed and aligned the Reference Files (i.e. Chart of Accounts, Business Units etc) to the Group and West & Central African Hub Template standard, whilst meeting the fiscal needs. I also trained staff in the GL processes.

As Treasurer I managed and controlled the company’s funds and risk towards the achievement of corporate objectives. There were five main functional areas within Treasury that I managed, namely; Credit Control, Accounts Payable, Cash and Bank, Payroll, Staff Loans Accounting and Insurance. In addition to the above duties, I managed effects of exchange rate (not derivative), produced Cash Forecast, negotiated with the banks on charges and interest rates and also (together with the Finance Manager) arranged overdraft/loan facilities. Part of my responsibility was assigning targets to staff and reviewing quarterly with them, which formed the basis of annual appraisal. I revised the Shell Ghana Treasury Policies and Procedures to ensure it was up to date and in line with the Shell Group Policy and Guidelines, which was reviewed by the Finance Manager and subsequently approved by the Board of Directors in 1998.

Re-engineering of Financial Systems, training and re-designing of procedures.I was the consultant responsible for the implementation of a financial/management information system (Sun Accounts) for the Head Office of Ghana Commercial Bank Limited; I was also one of the consultants on a similar project for the State Insurance Company of Ghana Limited, the biggest insurance company in Ghana. I implemented a Purchase Order Processing System and trained Ghana Cement (GHACEM) staff in its use. These implementations included re-engineering the Financial Processes, Information flow and security.

I analysed and reported on Monthly Expenditure against budget, highlighting the areas of concern and advising on how to address variances in order to meet the annual budget figures. I also assisted in the preparation of the Annual Operating Plans and carried out re-forecast.
