Savvius, formerly WildPackets, is a smaller company so I fulfilled many roles. From development and testing all the way up to being on the Executive Team. As Director of Engineering I am primarily responsible for the Software Development and Testing team. Another important role was to ensure we had the proper hardware platform. Finding the right combination of processors,network cards, and drives to store 20 gigabits per second. I learned a great deal about network engineering and security.

In 2000 eBay did not offer Image Hosting, we built it for them. Initially I was working on the browser plug-in which edited and uploaded images. I was then promoted to lead the server development team. There was never another outage of the service due to programming errors after my first release. Additionally I saved the company more than a million dollars in operational expenses by optimizing image processing, database accesses, reducing storage needs and bandwidth requirements.

Worked for a few different start-up companies: Communities.com - Adding revenue generating advertising system to existing online community. Brain-Co.com - Developed control and operating software for a video game platform called Trip2. It was a 2-axis tilting motion video arcade platform. Globetrotter Software - Enabled license compliance software to be accessed online.

Interactive television projects: Online community, Game Development (Mahjong, TVBots-maze war), Game Ports(Streetfighter, Streetfighter Movie, Doom II), Graphical Chat room with Icons and distance-based audio, User Testing, etc.First project Time-Warner installed in Orlando, Florida. The second, much more elaborate, for NTT and installed in Tokyo.

My initial project was to port their back-end system running on a huge network of PCs onto two Sun servers.My second project was to port their client from the PC onto the Sega Genesis. We had special hardware developed that allowed a modem, keyboard, and mouse to be connected to the Genesis. I reverse engineered the entire client and communication protocol. We successfully demonstrated the product at CES in 1993.

Worked on "Cyberpark," a virtual community designed to be a place for gamers to meet and play games. We had just finished end to end testing of the system when the company ran out of money to complete the project.

I could not have asked for a better first job than being the lead programmer for Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 2.0. I was part of a six person team that was doing the design work for the project when the rest of the team was let go, and I was promoted to lead. I also shipped World Atlas and U.S. Atlas products as lead engineer.
