I was selected for this role as part of a 24 month developmental assignment when the Tucson Proving Ground was restructured. My drive to make improvements for the facility was recognized, and I was enabled to make this my full time job. In this role I hosted rapid improvement workshops with cross functional teams, drafted business proposals, and improved.

While working at the Tucson Proving Ground, I switched from a contract worker to a full time Caterpillar employee. I continued validating the Caterpillar 797 platform haul truck. This machine still remains the largest mechanical drive haul truck in the world. In addition to planning and conducting testing activities I continued to expand my contributions.

I returned to Tucson and began pursuit of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree at the University of Arizona; Caterpillar was hiring, and I returned to a role working on large mining trucks in Green Valley at the Tucson Proving Ground. In this role I worked on testing and validation of the Tier 4 (reduced emissions) Caterpillar 797F T4 large.

Phoenix, Arizona Area

• Applied methods of lean manufacturing to optimize shop productivity, collaborated with machinists to optimize tooling and toolbox organization (5S).
• Developed solutions to manufacturing requirements of new products, created tooling options and designed/built precision weld fixtures.

Flagstaff, Arizona

• Designed and implemented new vehicle tracking procedure to ensure smooth traffic flow when at maximum capacity.
• Managed, scheduled & directed over 20 employees to ensure base operations tasks were completed; parking, shoveling, plowing, NAFTA bus scheduling, traffic flow and crowd control.

As a Test Engineer for Caterpillar’s Tucson Proving Ground, I worked to plan and conduct testing on large mining trucks. In this role I worked specifically with the Caterpillar 797 model. The 797 is a 400 ton payload mechanical drive haul truck. I worked on many CPI projects and the Winning Together NPI (New Product Introduction) program. This was my first.

These are some of the projects I completed during my undergraduate program. Basically, I would browse online auctions and Craigslist to buy broken or damaged vehicles at low cost. I then used my skills to troubleshoot and repair these items before I sold them for profit. It was a productive hobby that gave me a break from school; each new project taught me.
