Associate Healthcare Attorney
Richmond, Virginia
My practice at McGuireWoods focused on counseling providers and others in the healthcare industry on a variety of issues, including regulatory compliance, credentialing, fraud and abuse prevention, certificate of need issues, advance directives, and payment issues. I have helped clients from individual practitioners navigating professional-board issues to multi-hospital health systems meeting the demands of state regulation to nation-wide service-providers grappling with compliance with complex federal fraud and abuse laws. Relevant Experience:* Counseling hospitals and other healthcare clients to ensure compliance with the various state and federal regulatory burdens imposed on healthcare industry clients through issue-specific advice, drafting policies and procedures, and structuring of business arrangements. This experience included analysis of state and federal fraud and abuse laws, including the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA, and the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare"). * Representation of hospitals in physician credentialing proceedings, including secretarial review of required report to the National Practitioner Data Bank disputed by physician.* Representation of physicians, physician groups, and management organizations in both establishing and winding-down medical practices.* Representation of numerous healthcare providers, including a state-wide health system, in the Virginia Certificate of Need program to ensure access to resources needed to provide quality healthcare to patients.
