Hello, I am Vince.I am an OD candidate attending the Southern College of Optometry, set to graduate in May 2025. Over the past three years at Southern College of Optometry, I have spent countless hours trying to not only hone in on skills that allow me to complete tasks as an optometrist, but also focus on being a doctor that is able to adequately solve and convey problems and solutions to my patients. While it has been an emphasis to complete the bookwork required to pass board exams, it has just as much been a journey of importance in terms of learning how to care for those in need of us optometrists. From giving prescriptions for glasses to giving prescriptions for glaucoma treatment, clinic has taught me how to care for a diverse group of individuals with an immense variety of health/ocular issues. My clinic experience has given me opportunities to identify and treat not only simple cases such as astigmatism, dry eye, etc. but also the ability to critically think, diagnose, and lay out treatment plans for much more complicated disease as well (retinal detachments, glaucoma, diabetic ret, etc.). As third year of schooling closes, the next year of externship (until May 2025) will serve as a year to fine-tune, learn, and improve my capabilities as an up-and-coming optometrist. As I enter my fourth and last year of schooling, I sit in a position where I am confident in my abilities to be an optometrist, but more importantly, excited to continue learning and improving my skills day-in and day-out to be the best possible doctor I can be for my patients.
