Forcome is a Shanghai-based exporter and manufacturer of many products in various categories: outdoor living, tools, machines and hardware. While I was living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam I was asked to open their Vietnam office in 2019. Due to the Trump trade war, we saw an increase in Vietnam manufacturing and exports. I started importing from Vietnam manufacturers to re-sell on Amazon and Shopify sites., storing items at my St. Paul basement home. After moving to Thailand and Vietnam as a digital nomad, I ended up selling the business for 5-figures.

The global trade compliance department was going through transition and I was hired to assist. Unfortunately, the team wasn't able to coalesce under one vision to gain traction. I felt underutilized and left on the side lines, so I departed. -Part of new global trade team which implemented company global trade policies-Conducted data collection and research for several projects

Shortly after obtaining my global trade certificate, I worked as the APAC (Asia Pacific) trade compliance specialist on a three-person global trade compliance team. DDS supported national retailers with their supply chain and exports. GPS was a start-up Vietnam importer with the concept of distributing home and garden products to national hardware stores. I was able to convince the two co-owners I was willing to assist in logistics, sales, business development and support to gain traction. I absolutely hated making the change from white collar to blue collar work from working with my mind in an office setting to working on boats in the hot Florida heat. My first job was working at our family Asian restaurant and grocery store in downtown Mankato. I helped in several areas, including as a line food preparer, waiter, order taker, and cashier. I continued to work after school and on college breaks. This was the best job I ever had as I could make quick cash over a lunch or dinner period and it never felt like work supporting our family business. When my parents decided to sell the business in 1999 and move permanently to Fort Myers, Florida, it felt like the rug was pulled from underneath me.
