With over 30 years of experience in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate development, and treasury, I am a seasoned business leader who has delivered sound financial, strategic, and problem-solving solutions in the public and private sectors. As the SVP, CFO & Treasurer for NJ TRANSIT, the third-largest transportation agency in the US, I initiated and led the reorganization and streamlining of Finance, Real Estate, IT, and HR departments with over 600 employees, reducing costs, improving efficiency, and enhancing customer service. I also managed a nearly $5 billion operating and capital budget, reduced payables past due, closed and advanced major transit-oriented development projects, and recruited and hired key senior positions. Prior to joining NJ TRANSIT, I had a successful career as an investment banker, a corporate development executive, and a business owner. I advised and negotiated complex acquisitions, divestitures, and capital markets transactions for Lucent Technologies and global clients of Merrill Lynch Investment Banking. I also owned and operated a franchise restaurant, demonstrating my entrepreneurial spirit and operational skills. In addition to my professional achievements, I hold Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Economics from The Johns Hopkins University and two Treasurer certifications from NJ ELEC. I am Latino, Cuban-American fluent in English and Spanish and have a passion for public service and community involvement.
