Education without Borders (EwB) is a Canadian non-profit foundation created in 2002. EwB’s mandate is to foster educational opportunities and provide educational facilities in disadvantaged regions of the world. Currently, EwB’s efforts are focused on Fezeka Secondary , St Francis Adult School and the surrounding community in the township of Gugulethu, South Africa.Member of the Governance and Programme Sub-committees. Support fund raising efforts of EwB.

Cell-Ed is a social enterprise educational technology design organization focusing on the use of mobile phones for learning (formal and non-formal). It is committed to a learner centered design model using the mobile phone platform for delivering education and training anywhere, anytime to youth and adults, especially marginalized groups. Cell-Ed's approach is to use all types of phones, from entry level, feature and smart phones (now including tablets & laptops), so the device and access to the Internet does not create a barrier to learning. The use of mobile learning is further enhanced by good quality distance learning methods that includes contextual human centered design of courses, appropriate content to support the subject and learning process, learner support (including tutors and coaches) and assessment of learning that is relevant. Cell-Ed's vision - ‘enable a world of learning in the palm of your hands’.My role:- Develop Cell-Ed International's profile.- Construct the strategy for international expansion. - Identify and build partnerships and collaboration opportunities that address the education and training needs in various regions. - Build the partnership and business model with governments, corporates, development agencies, NGOs and other institutions. - Generate new business development agreements.- Ensure quality implementation of agreements, achieving the outcomes and KPIs. Achievements - constructed agreements & partnerships with AT&T (Escuela+), Discovery Learning Alliance, Jobs for Youth (India), CARE, OAS. Appointed external expert to Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Technical Working Group on Open and Distance Learning (ODL). Appointed Fellow - Institute for Public Education, British Columbia.

COL is an international inter-governmental Commonwealth Agency focused on the use of technology and open and distance learning methods for education. Worked closely with the President, Senior Management and Program Staff to develop and implement the strategic plan of COL. Provided oversight, direction and leadership to COL’s programs. Management oversight for CEMCA, COL’s regional center (New Delhi, India) and eLIO, COL’s fee-for-service training section. Managed networks and global/regional partners that support COL’s mandate.Achievements• Successfully implemented 2012 – 2015 Strategic Plan. Achieved program outcomes and KPI. COL rated A+ (2014 & 2015) by United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DfID) for attainment of program outcomes and value for money performance metrics.• Played lead role in development of new strategic plan for 2015 – 2021. This included analysis of data from 4 regional meetings of 48 country representatives and 25 stakeholders to determine national needs, analysis of global development goals and frameworks, ensuring alignment with COL’s mandate. • Managed process and engagement with funders resulting in additional grants of $900 000.• eLIO (COL’s fee for service division) achieved surplus for past two years due to quality training, strong pipeline of clients and management of contracts/partnerships. Total income for three years - $1 900 000.• Successfully managed 2 evaluations on impact of COL’s work and incorporated recommendations into new strategic plan (2015 – 2021).• Co-authored study on Public Private Partnership in ICT for Education – commissioned by Asian Development Bank. • Presented papers on technology and education to various meetings/conferences, e.g. Southern African Regional Universities Association (SARUA) Vice-Chancellor’s Leadership Dialogue, Asian Association of Open Universities, Asian Development Bank, Caribbean Development Bank, MasterCard Foundation Board.

Microsoft is a global software and services company that focuses on technology to enable people and organisations to realise their full potential. The focus of the Citizenship programs in South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland is the youth and developing their technology skills for social and economic development.Member of the Leadership Team (country executive), built the Citizenship team, developed and implemented the 3 year strategy focusing on education (School - Partners in Learning), youth skills development (support for IT skills in corporates and local governments), Community IT Skills (NGOs and Community Organizations). Developed and maintained relationships/partnerships with the private sector (eg. IT training companies), government (eg. Ministry of Basic Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Development Bank of Southern Africa) and community organizations. Achievements:- Facilitated the process leading to the South African Government, through its Job Fund, awarding Microsoft R96 million to scale up its youth IT skills/entrepreneurship development program. - Successfully implemented Employee Volunteer Programs and achieved Level 2 BBBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment - the best level for multinational IT companies in South Africa). - Awarded Microsoft’s Global Citizenship Network Leader.

Mindset develops digital content for the education and health sectors in South Africa and other Sub-Saharan African countries. The content (delivered to schools, hospitals/clinics via satellite, 2 tv channels and CDROMS) covers subjects like Maths, Science, Information Technology, English, Financial Literacy, HIV/AIDS, TB, Child Wellbeing. Mindset also supports usage thro training of teachers and health workers, support for the technology platforms, installations and remedial support.Developed 3 year strategic plan. Managed partnership agreements with government (national and provincial education and health departments), education and health institutions, development agencies (eg. USAID), corporate sector, universities and NGOs.Achievements: - Within first year, removed budget deficit (R2.6 million) and balanced budget.- Established a ‘for-profit’ company owned by Mindset that provides media and communication services to the corporate sector in South Africa. Profits provide alternate income stream to ensure financial sustainability of Mindset.- Acquired ownership of building for Mindset’s operations. - The following awards were won by the organization:National Science and Technology Forum Award (South Africa)Development Gateway Award (International)Industry Innovators for Systems Development and Application in the Nonprofit Sector Award Society of Satellite Professionals (International)

COL is an international inter-governmental Commonwealth Agency focused on the use of technology and open and distance learning methods to support all education - leading to social and economic development.Areas of focus - - ICT in education policy- Schoolnetworking- Open and distance learning policy- Applications of ICT in education sector- National and regional projects focused on the use of ICTs and ODLPromoted the development of educational technology policy options and supported the use of educational TV, e-learning strategies and the growth of school networking as viable support to learning and teaching in the education systems of Commonwealth Countries. Managed projects in countries (e.g. Zambia, Kenya, Ghana), engaged consultants, liaised and consulted with senior government officials, senior officials from development agencies (eg. New Partnership for Africa’s Development - NePAD, Association for the Development of Education in Africa – ADEA, World Bank) and academic institutions. A thought leader in ICT in Education, published various papers, delivered presentations. Achievement: - Co-edited a book on School-networking (Emerging Trends in the Development of School Networking Initiatives).- A Finalist in the Policy category of the World Technology Network Awards (Vis Naidoo - Policy)

Director of Centre for Educational Technology and Distance Education. Responsible for national policy in educational technology, distance education, libraries and use of media. Provided leadership, professional management and guidance in the execution of projects and policy that was in line with the Department’s Corporate Plan and Action Program. Provided professional advice to the Education Minister, Deputy Minister and Director-General in matters pertaining to the focus of the Centre and broader educational issues.Achievements:- Together with USAID and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) established Sesame Street in SA (Takalani Sesame). - Received, with co-authors, the Telisphere award in 1999 by the Journal of Educational Media for paper presented at conference.

• Responsible for the CAE’s Community Education Program (CEP), provided education and training opportunities to local communities and organizations. • Managed the postgraduate Diploma in Adult Education and lectured on the BEd Degree.• Engaged with international and national donor agencies and raised funds for projects within the Centre.
