Extensive experience in strategic project acquisition, the building of interdisciplinary R&D teams, and R&D and research management within large national, industrial and EU projects (up to a PI level). Strong hands-on AI expertise (specialising in medical and discovery informatics, knowledge graphs, ML and NLP). Experience in the collaborative development of research prototypes and industrial demonstrators (in Python, C, Java and Prolog programming languages). Substantial experience in industrial research, technology transfer and educational outreach activities. Used to be involved in standardization at W3C (as an invited expert in the OWL2 and Semantic Web Deployment working groups). Current research largely revolves around novel techniques for biomedical discovery informatics based on knowledge graph embeddings and explainable AI. From 2020 on, regular university-level teaching of AI, Machine Learning and their applications in the context of Life Sciences.
