I'm an econometrician with experience in a variety of data science and machine learning problems, focusing in particular on personalized recommendations and adaptive experimental design. Some of my projects are about carefully deploying machine learning methods for the social good (e.g., promoting modern contraceptives in developing countries), while other projects focus on understanding and developing new statistical theory (e.g., ensuring valid statistical analysis when data is collected via multi-armed bandit algorithms). I've led multi-disciplinary teams in collaboration with different institutions, including the World Bank and the New York City Department of Finance. I'm also a core developer on the C++ library and R package 'grf' for causal inference based on generalized random forests. I'm interested in the thoughtful application of the appropriate statistical tools to solve real-life issues.
