    From 2007 until 2014, as Editor in Chief of Natural History (published ten times a year) I solicited and selected articles and, with limited editorial staff, edited feature articles and columns and oversaw their illustration. The majority of the contributors to the magazine are professional scientists engaged in primary research in such fields as astronomy and astrophysics, ecology, evolutionary and molecular biology, geology, and paleontology, as well as archaeology, cultural and physical anthropology, and linguistics. The magazine’s hallmark has been to make this scientific content accessible to a general educated audience. Prior to my appointment as Editor in Chief, from 2002 to 2007, I served as Senior Editor. Now, as Editor Emeritus, I will occasionally work on a freelance basis to edit special issues.

After serving under several editors, I continued my work with the magazine after it was sold in 2002 to a private entity, Natural History Magazine, Inc.
