MSc. in Water Science and Engineering with specialization in Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering.Master's Thesis in Identification and Quantification of Runoff Components in the Kaap Catchment, South Africa. Quantification of the water resources in semiarid and trans-boundary basins plays a key role for water management and allocation to the different users. The Kaap River is a tributary of the Crocodile River which itself is part of the Inkomati River Basin. The trans-boundary basin shares water between South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique. Water tensions between these countries have triggered water sharing agreements emphasizing the need for water accountability. This thesis project aims to aid in the quantification process. By field visits, chemical water analysis and data interpretation and processing, different water components will be identified and quantified in the Kaap. This study will serve as a template for the neighboring catchments assisting in the overall hydrological description of the Inkomati River Basin.
