About Vivian S.
My aim is to disrupt current power structures by challenging archaic notions of hierarchy and bureaucracy embedded with white supremacy ideologies in higher education that continue to harm our most marginalized populations in educational spaces. My various teaching experiences have helped me gain confidence in fostering trusting relations through centering student voices, especially the voices of historically marginalized students. I communicate openly with students and always aim to mitigate barriers or conflicts so students feel safe and welcome in academia. I have cultivated a deep commitment to analyzing the power dynamics that impact intersections of race, socioeconomic status, ability, and sexuality and how they affect students’ experiences inside and beyond higher education. My current work focuses on fostering lifelong relations with students by uplifting their voices so they can confidently state that they are part of a belonging community at the University of Oregon.
