While studying journalism, I outperformed 70+ applicants to secure an internship with SBS' online news desk. Working under the guidance of senior digital journalists, I helped to post breaking national and international world news items such as the death of Kim Jong-il, the capture of Muammar Gaddafi, the Arab Spring revolt and the Occupy movement. This involved monitoring breaking news, subediting stories, fact-checking sources, and running legal issues past the legal department. I was also given the opportunity to feature my own news story on the site, and shot and produced an online video exclusive on the Australian subculture of eSports. On the day the story went live, it had one of the highest click-through rates for an in-house piece and was picked up on Reddit.

While studying journalism, I was hand-picked by a lecturer to work at Alternative Media Group. By leading a small team of journalists and reporting directly to the General Manager, I produced and subedited articles for 4 local papers (City News, Bondi View, Inner West Independent and City Hub). Working for a small independent news outlet taught me to be resourceful, to hone my 'nose for news' by developing professional relationships with locals, and to provide constructive feedback to reporters.

I beat out 100+ applicants to gain one of the coveted positions in DDB's graduate program, and went on to work as an Associate Digital Producer. I worked on major accounts such as Tourism Australia, McDonald's and Volkswagen, and worked directly with clients, the creative department and technical team to ensure digital campaigns were delivered on time and to brief.

In my last semester as an undergraduate advertising student, I secured work as a junior copywriter at one of the world's most prestigious digital agencies. I used this opportunity to soak up as much knowledge as possible from the creative department, and assisted senior copywriters on campaign briefs for big-name clients such McDonald's and Woolworths. I also conducted personas research for the strategy department, which helped inform their pitch deck for a Tourism Australia campaign.
