About Victoria Barker
I am a social science researcher with exceptional organisational skills. My research is mainly focused on place and the creative economies, and I'm particularly interested in how my work can have an impact by creating better support for freelancers. My PhD explored the creative ecosystem(s) around micro-businesses within the creative industries. I discovered that I was an economic geographer when my thesis won the Royal Geographical Society Economic Geography Research Group prize in 2019. My background includes significant experience in the further education and arts and culture sectors, where I specialise in research, evaluation and strategy development for charitable and non-profit groups. I also work as a bid writer and evaluation researcher, mostly with Earthen Lamp but also independently.Outside of work settings I write comedy for stage and radio. Once upon a time I also worked as a UK Mountain Leader (summer), delivering navigation and camp craft training to young people (14 - 19) for Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes from Bronze to Gold level.
