Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (AAAWM)’s mission is to provide older adults and adults living with a disability an array of services designed to promote independence and dignity in their homes and their communities. AAAWM administers a $60 million budget and serves a nine-county region that includes Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo, and Osceola counties, and the City of Grand Rapids. The Area Agencies on Aging are regional agencies, part of a nationwide network, created by Congress in 1974 by the federal Older Americans Act with the mission of creating home and community-based services. The AAAWM funds, advocates, plans and partners. AAAWM is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
