Newton Medical Center, Morristown Medical Center

As a Clinical Information Manager, I worked directly with physicians and physician assistants to expedite and enhance patient care in the Emergency Department by accurately documenting thorough electronic medical records at the direction of the provider. I engaged in the decision-making process through which patients' symptoms were analyzed and treatment options were delineated. I observed physical exams, procedures, analyzes of diagnostic tests and patient-provider interactions. I also witnessed the team-based approach to patient care, a working dynamic among PAs and physicians.

As a recruiter for the Clinical Information Manager/Medical Scribe position with Emergency Medical Associates, I conducted interviews and testing, managed candidates through the interview and hiring processes and collaborated with a team of regional managers to adequately staff Emergency and Internal Medicine Departments. I also performed outreach to colleges, conducted information sessions and participated at career fairs. I shared my experiences and insight to the CIM position to seek and assist aspiring healthcare professionals in gaining clinical experience as an employment opportunity.

Interventional Cardiology

As US/Canadian Study Manager for an investigator-initiated, industry-sponsored, global phase III clinical trial, I exemplified the utmost level of professionalism in site management, budget analyzes, timeline organization, and correspondence. Hosting our sponsor and European counterpart for a partners’ meeting, I conducted a two-day presentation for the 25-person team. I assisted with preparations for the US/Canadian Investigator Meeting where I presented the study’s enrollment status/goals. I also took part in submitting an application for a NIH grant for a national, phase III clinical trial.

Newton Medical Center

As Lead Clinical Information Manager, I supervised seven CIMs in the Emergency Department at Newton Medical Center, while maintaining my role as a medical scribe working alongside physicians and physician assistants. I served a vital role for Emergency Medical Associates; growing the scribe program at NMC into a continuous source of accurate documentation to improve productivity. I managed logistics and scheduling, honing my leadership and versatility skills. As a liaison, I conducted on-site coaching, created new projects, and facilitated a working relationship between EMA and its NMC site.

West Orange, Nj

In Dr. Anna Barrett’s Stroke Lab, I completed a 115-hour research rotation, assisting in evaluating the feasibility and effectiveness of a home-based prism adaptation therapy for right-hemisphere stroke survivors with spatial neglect. After conducting in-home neurological tests, I scored and analyzed patients’ performances and tracked their progress during the study. I presented findings in Stroke Lab meetings and aided with preparation for Institutional Review Board review. I also assisted Dr. Elizabeth Galletta, SLP in a hypophonia study by observing testing and scoring patients’ speech.

Stony Brook, Nj

• Compared characteristics of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPC) in vivo to previous in vitro experiments and evaluated RE1 Silencing Transcription Factor (REST) regulation of OPCs in vivo via transplantation studies.• Analyzed immunohistochemistry of tissue samples for neuronal and oligodendrocyte properties of transplanted OPCs infected with control vs. dominant negative REST virus in vivo, using a Zeiss Axioplan2 microscope, and obtained images using Axiovision.• Assisted in confirmation of the original hypothesis that REST is required for oligodendrocyte differentiation in vivo; OPCs infected with dominant negative REST retrovirus exhibited neuronal properties while OPCs infected with control exhibited oligodendrocyte properties • Presented research findings and published an abstract for the URECA (Undergraduate Research and Creativity) conference at Stony Brook University in April 2010 to over 200 faculty, students, and staff.• Conducted a presentation on components of research at the Young Investigator’s Symposium at Stony Brook University in May 2010.
