Serve as subject matter expert for Imaging and provide support for high containment practices and procedures at the IRF-Frederick. Lead study directors and support scientists and provide recommendations to IRF-Frederick leadership regarding safe and efficient operations within the BSL-4 environment. Suggest novel research programs and projects to maximize use of IRF-Frederick capabilities. Actively solicit important, mission relevant collaborations from academia, industry and/or Government agencies. Plan, perform and supervise execution of IRF-Frederick Government leadership approved internal and collaborative research projects in a timely manner to yield reproducible and defendable results. Provide insight and vison while leading junior staff.

As a faculty member at BMEII and Director of the Imaging Clinical Trials Unit, I work to translate novel multi-modality imaging techniques for use in multicenter clinical trials. My main interests are in imaging of cardiovascular diseases , specifically focusing on atherosclerosis, thrombosis and their complications using FDG-PET, CT and MRI. The clinical trials unit is composed of clinicians, image processing and programming experts, image analysts, data managers, IT personnel and research coordinators. It is a modern hybrid between a contract research organization (CRO) and an imaging core lab. It undertakes and manages all aspects; ranging from scientific conduct to administrative management of clinical trials with imaging endpoints led by TMII. Tasks span from industry or federally sponsored multicenter clinical trials to the support of individual investigators interested in using imaging endpoints for their work. Typical services offered include but are not limited to trial design and consultation, imaging protocol development, site training and qualification, data repository and database management, data quality control and analysis, and publication support.

I am a Senior Imaging Scientist working in support of the overall functions of the Division of Clinical Research (DCR), Office of Chief Scientist – Integrated Research Facility (OCS-IRF) of the NIH/NIAID. I support the planning of state-of-the-art animal imaging studies, as well as accurate, and timely interpretations and analysis of various types of imaging data. The role of the Contract Senior Imaging Scientist is to advise the IRF Director on multiple facets of animal imaging studies, to assist in identifying imaging equipment upgrades, and serving as a subject matter expert for the design of appropriate animal imaging studies, and bring in collaborative imaging studies that use the unique capabilities of IRF-Frederick. I also serve as an internal Principal Investigator for collaborator proposed imaging studies carried out at the IRF.
