As one of largest fashion retailer in the world, H&M has grown to exist in over 48 countries and over 2700 stores as of August 2012. H&M first opened its doors in 1947 and in 2000, it opened its first US store on 51st Street and 5th Avenue. Since that time it’s grown to have over 250 stores, expanding at a pace of 15-30 shops per year.During my eight years with H&M I was fortunate enough to occupy several roles of ever increasing responsibility. I started in 2002 as a Department Manager, hired to be part of the original management team for a (then) brand new location. In 2003 I became the company’s first Store Human Resources Manager, overseeing all HR related functions at one of the company’s flagship locations in New York City. In 2005, I became a Human Resources Project Manager. During my 3 years in this role I was actively involved in the development and implementation of the first web-based time and attendance/scheduling system for H&M US. As I was performing this role I was also taking on additional responsibilities as the Human Resources Generalist for H&M US. During my tenure I performed a variety of different roles, such as: performance management, employee relations, labor relations, compensation, training and development, expatriate relations, project management. My time at H&M taught me the value of exceeding expectations, working in a collaborative fashion, and managing multiple priorities successfully.
