Having received medical and molecular biology training it was finally cell engineering I got really passionate about. I admire the beauty of nature´s design principles. The more I understand these principles the easier it is to modulate and change cells making them fit for industrial processes and generating the exact products we desire.As Chief Scientific officer of ProBioGen I aim to further expand ProBioGens platform technologies and to seek partners for innovative product development. Together with an exceptional team we generated one of the leading platforms for high producer CHO cell lines: CHO.RiGHT. Elements of the platform are the core of the Freedom-CHO-S Kit co-developed with any marketed by LTC/Thermo. To enhance productivity and modulate and define product features we engineered cellular pathways of secretion and glycosylation and developed GlymaxXan alternative way to enhance ADCC.Having been deeply involved with Merck´s vaccine programs my other passion is vectored vaccines. Despite decades of experimental work some – in particular the poxvirus MVA - still don´t have the appropriate standing in the vaccine landscape. Challenging manufacturing issues and low titers were one reason and efficient production systems can make a difference. The AGE1.CR duck cell line, specific chemically defined media for it, a unique MVA vector and numerous vaccine processes are my contribution to this field together with the virus team. We have applied it to human and animal vaccine projects together with industrial partners. Ultimately, I would like to direct design of a vaccine itself and bring it to life. I love to interact with companies, scientists and business leaders to find the most appropriate strategy and product candidate, bringing it to life and moving it up the development path!
