Principal Engineer, Appdynamics
Upon acquisition of AppDynamics by Cisco, I worked in the AppDynamics team.
Principal Engineer, Cloud Analytics
From inception, I led the team as the spanning architect of this cloud-native, SaaS-based, IT operations analytics product. In October 2016, we added a second spanning architect, and at that point we shared architecture responsibilities. I reported directly to the VP/GM as a part of the senior leadership team. The product leveraged AWS platform managed services wherever possible, thereby dramatically accelerating the project. This microservice-based architecture included Docker/ECS containers, as well as strong use of AWS Lambda functions. We leveraged a GraphQL-based external API, a graph database (ArangoDB), ElasticSearch, DynamoDB, and S3. UIs were based on React and D3. We delivered through customer preview, and achieved Cisco Information Security approval.Patent pending for a "System and Method for Managing Sensitive Data", combining OAUTH and RBAC styles of authentication. On acquisition of AppDynamics, Cloud Analytics focus shifted to offering similar capabilities through evolutions to the AppDynamics platform.
Principal Engineer, Cloud Intercloud Services
I was a founding leader of this project to create marketplace and account management services for Cisco's planned public cloud platform, through which customers could create a cloud account, and purchase and deploy cloud applications onto their cloud account. This large project spanned not only the Cisco InterCloud platform team, but also Cisco IT business systems integration, federated identity and user management. I led product and security architecture across 5 scrums and several geographies. In May 2015, I was promoted to Principal Engineer. The cloud platform was based on OpenStack. The solution leveraged Cisco Prime Service Catalog and CliQr alongside custom microservices. I was part of a core team which performed due diligence in the Cisco acquisition of CliQr, now Cisco CloudCenter. The assignment ended when Cisco exited the public cloud platform business.
Sr. Architect, Cloud Automation And Management
I drove architecture, contributed to solution and product strategy, and determined the technology and features which achieve that strategy. I mentored product-level architects, managers, and engineers to business needs, market trends, principles, and designs that make our products win. Initially I reported to the head of engineering, and later to the VP for the Cloud Automation and Management portfolio. I served as the lead architect for Intelligent Automation solutions including:• Cisco Intelligent Automation for Cloud (IAC), Cisco’s cloud infrastructure management automation solution that enables organizations to rapidly provision IaaS within its many large enterprise and service provider customers• Cisco Intelligent Automation for SAP, selected by SAP their IT process automation needs and resold as SAP IT Process Automation by Cisco.Cisco Process Orchestrator is a key product in these solutions, which I led since its inception at Tidal. Acting as both architect and product manager, I evolved its features, roadmaps, release plans, requirements, model for end-user interaction, architecture, and design.I was awarded a patent for "Object-Oriented Class Hierarchy for Workflow Execution Targets", an extension for IT Process Automation allowing a user-extensible object model for defining automation endpoint types.I supported due diligence of Cisco acquisitions as we grew our cloud portfolio.
Corporate Architect
I led the the architecture and design of Process Orchestrator, a Runbook Automation software product to perform orchestration of IT processes, and our SAP management vertical. Acting as architect and at times product manager, I defined the product and technical strategy, target market, features, roadmaps, release plans, requirements, functional model for end-user interaction, architecture, and many aspects of design of this IT process automation platform.Grew revenues at an over 30% rate while our general market grew under 10%.I created and institutionalized many of Tidal’s engineering processes which facilitated Tidal growth and the Cisco acquisition and integration.Part of the leadership team supporting key partnership and acquisition discussions, leading to the successful sale of Tidal to Cisco Systems, and a selection by SAP for their process automation needs.
