The pharmaceutical industry is changing due to a lot of factors; the expiration of patents of blockbuster medicine, the cost of bringing new drugs to the market have increased, drug development takes around 10-15 years. The main problem is that their own pipeline for drug development is not effective, therefore the companies are changing their in-house R&D to a more open environment with a lot of new external collaboration to stay innovative. These collaboration can be in different forms; papers, patent-pair publication, etc. The main question of my thesis is: What factors define open innovation and how do they influence formal collaborations in the pharmaceutical industry.

Cooperation of both professors and students to improve the biologie education at Radboud University. Its function is to mediate between the faculty and its students, advising both sides, curriculum evaluation and helping the educational programme (bachelor and master) to maintain its quality.

Overfishing will be a big problem in the future. One of the reasons is the diet of farmed fish mostly consists of other fish. The way to overcome the overfishing is substituting their diet by vegetarian food. The disadvantage of vegetarian fishfood is that it has traces of toxins like benzo-a-pyrene and phenanthrene. The aim of this research is to find out the influence of these toxins in the fish and the mechanism of transfer of the toxins. Experiments were conducted mainly at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands and partially at the National Institute of Nutrition and seafood Research (NIFES) in Bergen, Norway.

This research involved counting the number of immature and mature oligodendrocytes in the subgranular zone in the postmortem brain samples from alcoholics and controls. The rationale for this was that oligodendrocytes might be important in maintaining a functional neurogenesis in hippocampus.
