Since 1985 I'm working in the area of IT consulting and software development. My work has always be related to UNIX/Linux systems software, networking technologies and security. Within these areas, I am specialized in projects related to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).In the Linux community, I have been a kernel developer (networking/firewall subsystem) during several years and I am still involved in a number of FOSS projects.Since about 1992, I have written many technical articles for several UNIX and Linux magazines.From 1998 on, I have also been involved in the organization of several technical UNIX, Linux and Open Source conferences in the Netherlands and Germany. From 2001 on, I was program chair of 6 international Linux conferences in Germany and the Netherlands and Germany, organized by the German UNIX User Group (GUUG). I also have been a program committee member of several other conferences.Since 1994 I have been giving talks and tutorials at many UNIX and Linux conferences throughout the world (USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands), as well as for large companies and organizations. Topics include Linux and FOSS in general, firewalls and security, RPM packaging, system administration issues, web development and building Linux distributions.Specialties: My main interests include Linux and FOSS advocacy, automation of system installation and administration tasks, packaging (mainly RPM), and implementing and deploying upcoming Linux technologies in new products and services.

Owner And CeoX/Os Experts In Open Systems Bv Nov 1994 - PresentAmsterdam, North Holland, NetherlandsAs owner and co-founder of X/OS, I have worked on a large variety of projects, all related to UNIX/Linux systems software.From 1995 to 1999, I implemented and maintained the Linux kernel firewall code (kernel versions 1.0 to 2.0) and the accompanying ipfwadm utility. This work also included Linux' first implementation of kernel-level support for transparent proxying.From 2004 to 2008, I was the core developer of X/OS Linux, a rebuild of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux sources.Other projects include design and implementation of custom firewalls, honeypots, clusters (based on various cluster technologies), migration of office environments from WIndows to Linux, and automation of several system installation and administration tasks.Since 2006, I am also involved in the development of a Linux-based point-of-sale system for the hospitality market.

That work included porting BSD software to UNIX System V, extending it when necessary, and implementing that software for users in the software development department.As a teacher I was also was involved in internal courses for Philips employees, covering several computer science topics. -
