As owner and co-founder of X/OS, I have worked on a large variety of projects, all related to UNIX/Linux systems software.From 1995 to 1999, I implemented and maintained the Linux kernel firewall code (kernel versions 1.0 to 2.0) and the accompanying ipfwadm utility. This work also included Linux' first implementation of kernel-level support for transparent proxying.From 2004 to 2008, I was the core developer of X/OS Linux, a rebuild of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux sources.Other projects include design and implementation of custom firewalls, honeypots, clusters (based on various cluster technologies), migration of office environments from WIndows to Linux, and automation of several system installation and administration tasks.Since 2006, I am also involved in the development of a Linux-based point-of-sale system for the hospitality market.

At Bull, I worked as consultant in pre-sales and after-sales projects, all related to Bull UNIX systems (at a later stage including AIX) in a wide range of application areas.I also worked as a teacher in internal education courses, learning Bull employees more about UNIX and state-of-the-art computer science technologies.

At ACE, I have worked as senior consultant in projects related to UNIX systems software.

At Philips I worked as software developer, teamleader and projectleader in several areas, all related to systems software development for Philips' own UNIX systems.Projects I worked on were (a.o.) development of a networking stack for connecting UNIX systems to IBM mainframes (using the SNA protocol), internal tool development, and designing a division-wide TCP/IP network, connecting Philips software development centers in five different countries.While being involved with internal automation, I also worked on Free and Open Source software since 1988, although that software was not named as such at that time. That work included porting BSD software to UNIX System V, extending it when necessary, and implementing that software for users in the software development department.As a teacher I was also was involved in internal courses for Philips employees, covering several computer science topics.

In this part-time job during my study, I assisted staff members and students in several programming courses (basic programming, parallel programming, assembly language programming, compiler construction). Besides that, I have set up and administered virtual machines for students under VM/CMS.
