I worked on a project titled "Study of damage on composite structures in aeronautics" for my master thesis at Daher Aerospace, Saint Julien de Chedon under Aerostructures and defense department.--The behaviour of thermoset and thermoplastic composites in the event of impact and compression after impact is presented in this study. --The inter laminar and intra laminar failure modes of composite materials has been discussed.--Chang-Chang failure criteria for fiber and matrix in tensile and compression modes were explained.--The delamination modeling strategies in LS Dyna has been discussed. --The double cantilever beam of thermoset and thermoplastic were simulated in LS Dyna to evaluate the delamination parameters by trial and error method. --Low velocity impact test for thermoset and thermoplastic were carried out with the evaluated delamination parameters. --The effect of impact energies on delamination area of thermoset and thermoplastic composites were compared. --The impacted specimen is then compressed to find out the compression after impact strength.--In terms of compression after impact strength, thermoset and thermoplastic were compared.

Worked under the department of Integrated propulsion system on the topic "Study of High Velocity impact on 3D woven and laminated composites". This study was done using LS-Dyna in which a laminated composite of Carbon/epoxy (T300/976) and an equivalent 3D woven composite is modeled and then post processed. --The deflections, stresses, contact forces and energies were analyzed for both 3D woven and laminated composite. --The obtained results concluded that the 3D woven composites have better efficiency when compared to laminated composites due to the fact that 3D woven composite have yarns running along the z-directions that is in through thickness direction. Thus, this will improve the out-of plane properties of a composite material.
