Michelle Arnold is a Business Support Coordinator at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT). " I have worked in the NHS since 1988 in 3 different fields. Firstly, as a Staff Nurse, then for 28 years as a Paramedic and since 2022 as a Community Phlebotomist with Cambridge and Peterborough Foundation Trust (Cpft). During this long career I have worked alongside many staff in differing roles managers, associates et al each with their own individual style of management and leadership. But, when I joined CPFT, i had the pleasure to meet Michelle Arnold, who holds the post of Business Support Administrator within the same unit as myself. For 28 years I had been accustomed to working in the Emergency Services which obviously has a completely different role and working environment and following my medical retirement and subsequent recovery a period of 4 years had elapsed. So, when I eventually secured the post of Community Phlebotomist I felt like a fish out of water, as i was now working in Community Primary Care, which is a world away from my role as a paramedic. I am the only Community Phlebotomist within my unit and i observed several things that could be improved, but lacked the knowledge of how to go about effecting change. Michelle proved an encyclopaedia of business management and change and I found her to be a highly knowledgeable, intelligent person with an incredible grasp of business management, financial principles, change management and most importantly of all integrity and professionalism. Michelle has guided me through business matters and helped me to understand how to compile the evidence to effect any change. The routes needed and the right way to do things. She is also a lady of great compassion and understood how my emotions were affected by the diagnosis of Type 1 PTSD that ended my career as a paramedic and helped me become settled in my new role. She is always there with a friendly ear and buckets of understanding and possess the ability to listen without judging and giving a very balanced viewpoint. Although her role isn’t clinical, she does understand how important effective Co-ordination and leadership can not only promote productivity but also staff morale too. Michelle has had a very accomplished career in Business Management and Leadership and Co-ordinator in various aspects of health care and in the MOD. She is an inspiring person and in my view highly underestimated and she has the potential to achieve great things should she put her mind to it.
