I wanted to be a teacher from the time I set up a classroom in my bedroom as a child. My teachers meant the world to me. I yearned to stand on their shoulders to become a teacher that changed my students' lives. I strive for that dream still today. My goal to teach elementary students began in my teenage years while working at a YMCA daycare facility. The kindergarten students were naturally curious and eager to absorb any learning they could get their hands on. My journey in planning for this career began at Montgomery County Community College in Pottstown, PA and then transferred over to West Chester University of Pennsylvania. My student teaching experience through WCU cemented my love for teaching elementary students and landed me a position as a second-grade teacher. That second grade position led to many years of moving from one grade to the next to gain a worldly perspective of the primary grades. That journey included teaching first to fourth grades between 2005 and 2014. The two years that followed had me serving as the instructional support teacher (IST) for my school. This role allowed me the time to collaborate with teachers to find the interventions they needed to meet the needs of their students. I became a mentor and source of learning information and resources for my fellow teachers. It was incredibly rewarding and allowed me to add a plethora of new instructional strategies to my teacher's toolbox. It was in 2017 when I took those tools back to the classroom.I have taught first grade now for the last five years and there is no grade I would rather be at this time in my life. To teach a child how to read, so they can read to learn, is one of the most noblest deeds one can pursue. If you visit my classroom, you will find an environment full of learning, understanding, and fun. It is those three ingredients that allow a child to discover who they are and what they wish to learn. I am there to help them discover a lifelong love for learning.
