Maintaining and developing systems to block and manage Spam, Viruses, and other sorts of bad content on the site. These systems integrate with hundreds of other internal and external services which span the entire Linkedin infrastructure. This includes interfacing and supporting many other internal teams, purchasing and integrating with 3rd party vendors, and coordinating my team to deliver features on time while leveraging existing technologies to minimize the cost of development. All of this happens at Linkedin scale and creates big amounts of data, while keeping the service's profile small and light.

Developer

Boxfish

Boxfish analyzes TV in real-time and provides tools for users to find and get recommendations on which programs to watch. As a developer at this small 7 person company, I had to wear many hats from helping out with product design to designing algorithms for advertisement detection to creating infrastructure and making sure its secure, backed up, and reliable. Additionally I created many systems to keep up with this constant high load of 200-500 words per second by creating distributed and redundant systems which include: • Build a highly efficient API for internal and external systems to consume Boxfish data as well as request notifications and download Electronic Program Guide (EPG) information. This API included an OAuth style authentication and authorization scheme, rate limiting, and handled a distributed environment.• Created redundant and distributed application to prioritize and download EPG data from an unreliable third party. • Created an internal redundant monitoring system to collect data on application rate statuses, errors, and downtime and to notify us when problems occur.• Developed redundant and distributed messaging systems on top of PubSub to generate and route hundreds of internal notifications per minute to other internal systems and end users.• Created a fully automated build and release system which created a staging and release build, uploaded concatenated and minimized files to the CDN, and kept a full history of builds in SVN tags. Used the Dropbox release strategy.

Developed the mobile technology architecture which other teams use to build, deploy, and configure smart devices used by a large mailer service. These devices are used to tracking packages, maintain inventory, and validate incoming mail. The mobile devices are deployed to thousands of users in around the country. The mobile technology software provides enhanced functionality to these deployed devices to create a simple and standardized platform for multiple applications. In this iteration, we are adding support for a new device in pilot phase that offers additional functionality for increased usability, enables communication between devices, and supports WIFI and cellular networks. This Federal Regulatory Commission requested a custom web based solution to repackage an internal docket tracking system with newer technologies on the Microsoft platform. This original solution utilized an Access 2003 database application with Oracle backend. The upgraded solution converted this database to ASP.NET, utilizing the existing Oracle backend. Internal users can now create, view, and manage workspaces based around dockets generated by this Regulatory Commission. Responsible for:• Managing the entire engagement from architecting the system to testing the final product.• Managing a group of local and remote resources which included the BA, the QA team, and the development team.• Working closely with the customer to fully understand the application, maintain scope, and propose additional solutions to meet business needs.

The government agency required a universal method of authenticating and authorizing remote procedure calls to its unique web services. The solution created a custom authentication and authorization scheme which utilized x509 certificates and role based permissions. Additionally a custom ASP.NET application was built, providing the ability to create custom certificates and assign highly granular permissions to each certificate. Responsible for:• Learning and educating the rest of the organization about WCF authentication, x509 certificates, and recommended practices to utilize this technology.• Designing and developing a highly efficient algorithm for authenticating certificates, assigning roles to the web request, and handling caching for fast web service responses.• Developing a custom ASP.NET web application which created certificates and administered permissions to those certificates.
