Software Engineer I
At Appcues I was put on the Product Experience team with 4 others to manage the entire UI and UX experience of the app. Here I was tasked to do things such as build full user experiences and features based off of mockups, fix bugs, and contribute to product-tech meetings and helping make proper estimates for completion times.I also played a significant part in a large scale database migration during my time here moving from a NoSQL to a SQL database and making the front end transitions between the two databases seamless using prime dual writing techniques. I was extremely exposed to the product and customer experience portions of a SaaS company which really helped me form a unique perspective around being a good engineer keeping the customer and company goals in mind. So not only getting a great experience in software engineering but also getting great exposure to the intricacies of what it means to be a leader in a startup!
Software Engineering Intern
This summer I got put on a small Engineering team of 3-6 people where we worked on the biggest feature of the quarter (onboarding checklists). During my time at Appcues, I not only got a great front-end development experience in React.js but also learned a lot about working together in small teams and what it is like seeing a large product feature from planning to development to marketing and then finally to deployment. I personally worked on making the UX of this feature cleaner as well as added some brand new functionality to the feature. In addition to working on that team, I also worked with the marketing team to satisfy and fix many bugs that came up during our new product rebrand this summer. This experience was truly amazing for me because I got to see the startup environment and how everyone works together collectively towards one goal and I also didn't feel like just an intern, but a full fledged engineer that could take on any task given to me. On top of all this, I got to expand my network and work with some of the most talented and motivated individuals out there so overall my summer was one to remember!
Software Engineering Intern
Worked hands on with the company software dealing with Certificate Security. As a development intern I worked on a series of bugfixes, dealing with things ranging from the software SQL database errors, to front-end UI bugs as well as back-end functionality changes. Along with these bug fixes, I also worked with a team of two other development interns to design, pitch and develop an email encryption application that allows customers to safely send and receive emails in an encrypted fashion using newly created and pre-existing functions in the codebase. From this experience I learned a lot about the cyber security industry along with general knowledge about what it is like to navigate and develop on a large codebase. Learning new languages such as C# and ASP.Net was also a plus and has helped with my journey to become a full stack developer. I was really grateful for the opportunity and enjoyed the overall experience!
Software Development Intern
Went in not knowing anything about front-end development, started with building a suite of unit tests for the Testive website gaining a bit of knowledge on interactions between HTML, CSS, and JS; then switched to second project where I researched, designed, coded, and eventually deployed a web referral page/program for Testive. This referral lander displays a series of unique javascript functionalities which are demonstrated in the video below. The automated messaging in this project was done via Twilio.
Leader And Organizer
After seeing a TEDx event at a nearby college UMass Amherst that my father sponsored, my brother and I decided we wanted to bring one to our high school community to help spread the ideas and motivation that TED talks give to you. And so, I worked closely with my brother and lead certain departments such as Finance and the website to help bring this to our community.
