Pressure Swing Adsorption Of Gaseous Mixture: Numerical Simulation And Optimisation Prospects
After my End of Studies Project at Durham University, I realised that I was deeply interested in research. To continue on this path, I choose to join the Research Option offered at IMT-Lille-Douai. Below is a short description of this experience.The research project was conducted at the Department of Energy Engineering of the IMT-Lille-Douai and concentrates on an experimental Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) cycle system for biogas upgrading. The innovative aspect of the project is that the optimisation approach of the PSA cycle is based upon heat recovery. This idea takes its roots in the fact that temperature alters the kinetics of the PSA cycle.Below are listed the project's aims:-> Designing a 2D-CFD model to gain a physical understanding of an experiment; -> Study of the reliability of the CFD model & the influence of different parameters;-> Study of the thermal transfer impact on the PSA cycle efficiency;-> Calculation of the potential benefits of the optimised PSA cycle;-> Discussion about potential improvement aspects.STAR-CCM+ has been used to build the physical model and run the simulations.
Adaptivity In Extended Finite Element Method (Xfem) With Hyperbolic Tangent For Boundary Cooling
In 2017, I decided to accomplish my end of studies project at the engineering department of Durham University, before coming back to France to finish my education.This project focused on the implementation of a numerical method, the Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM), which derives from the Finite Element Method (FEM).It was based on a previous work that consisted of building a program to compute the potential benefits of the XFEM compared with the FEM in the case of a high-Temperature gradient thermal boundary cooling Problem.The principle of the XFEM is to add hyperbolic tangent "enrichment" functions to the basis of polynomial shape functions commonly used in FEM, on the elements where the convective thermal transfer is occurring.The project's aim was to modify these "enrichment" functions according to time in order to increase the computational efficiency of the numerical method.The main stages of the project were the following:-> Literature review regarding time-adaptive methods & the XFEM;-> Creation and implementation of a time-adaptive algorithm aiming at reducing simulation cost in case of high-temperature gradients;-> Analysis of the results & final report redaction;Tools employed: python, paraview, gmsh, microsoft office
