Miss Nikki worked with CBM for11 years. She served as the Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer. In 2007 she played a major role in establishing the DC CARES Mentoring Program. My responsibilities included, providing administrative and clerical support to the project director. I was also responsible for direct recruitment of returning citizens from CSOSA, faith-based prison ministries, and local non-profit programs. I developed relationships with the staff at Hope Village Half Way House Community where I was given an office and classroom to teach and facilitate life skills job readiness/job training workshops. I developed the Life Skills and Job Readiness/Retention training curriculum, facilitated and taught the classes. Worked in collaboration with CSOSA Agents, as well as CSOSA VOTEE staff to provide and train their staff in Job development and retention for returning citizens. I spent endless hours in research to develop the curriculum for both the life skills and job readiness/retention workshops. I made connections in the local community so that we could provide funds/tokens for transportation for our clients for job searching and go to work until they received their first pay check. We partnered with local banks who provided workshops on saving and investing money. to help our clients establish bank accounts, and we partnered with people and organizations to donate ties and shirts to the men, as well as other services they needed. I provided case management for 35 clients, conducted eligibility interviews and worked along with a team of 5 to determine appropriate placement of the clients and to determine their specific needs. Worked closely with CSOSA, faith-based, government and social services organizations to find adult mentors for the clients. Developed relationships in the community with various employers who made agreements to hire our clients. I developed and implemented a major job development effort to meet the requirements of a federal grant—exceeding program benchmarks. (Was responsible for locating jobs for over 50 clients in less two months and they held a 90% retention rate for over 90-days)
