Executive DirectorChisholm Services For Children Sep 2001 - PresentHalifax Nova ScotiaAs the Executive Director I hold a key leadership position in the organization. Reporting to a community based Board of Directors I am responsible for the oversight and implementation of the services offered by the organization, which include: community based group living for children 12 years of age and younger who hold a care status with the Department if Community Services; the LINKS Literacy program which offers community based literacy support to children 6 - 12 years of age who are reading below grade level or diagnosed with a learning difference; and a monthly group for parents who have been approved and waiting to adopt. As the executive Director, I am responsible for the overall delivery of service for the children in our care, through the implementation of policies and procedures that are congruent with the organization's mission, vision strategic goals; human resource management; financial accountability and sustainability; and management of external stakeholder relationships. Since 1985, I have worked in both direct and indirect advocacy roles for an estimated 400 children and youth who have come through Chisholm’s doors, as well as 1300 children in the community with the LINKS Literacy Program. To achieve this goal, I truly valued and rely upon the Chisholm team and volunteer Board of Director’s in supporting our service to provide the care the children requiring such supports deserve. -
Director Of Clinical ServicesSisters Of The Good Shepherd Oct 1995 - Sep 2001Halifax, Nova ScotiaThe Sisters of the Good Shepherd provided a place to call home away from home for ten adolescent females between the ages of 10 and 21 who held a care status with the Department of Community Services with the support of community based group living at Chisholm Centre and Barnett House. Under the authority of the Executive Director, I provided clinical direction and guidance to a team of Youth Care Workers to support the therapeutic milieu. In setting priorities and with a strong communication system and directing a highly motivated treatment team, I provided oversight of a residential environment where adolescents felt nurtured and safe. In my role, I developed and implemented treatment plans based in best practice to meet the psycho-social needs of the adolescents in the organization's care. To accomplish this goal, I worked closely with the Youth Care Worker team, placing agencies, and community collaborators to coordinate all aspects of therapeutic support for each adolescent in Chisholm’s care.
