I moved into an environment where the Auditors had just refused to audit as the financial systems were so inadequate and out of date they were considered non functional and inaccurate. Firstly I had to reconstitute the data to obtain financial reports and audit opinion. Then we rebuilt a new and detailed management accounting financial system. The audit bill was cut in half the following year, which was the first time audited accounts were presented to an AGM.Regular monthly reports were then made available to all Board meetings. Budgets were established next. Detailed management reports were then available on individual sectional activities and on the individual jobs such as specific training courses.As Treasurer for two terms, I was also a member of the executive committee involved in the daily management.A highlight, it was the first time as Treasurer in any organisation, my financial report to the AGM received an applause from the membership.
