Graduate Research Assistant

Laboratory For Nanointegrated Systems

Salt Lake City, Utah, United States

In this position I am developing an EDA-equivalent tool for micro fluidic design automation (MFDA). To accomplish this, I am adapting both commercial and open-source EDA tool flows such as floor planning, place, and route using a custom standard cell library for micro fluidic components. This involves GNU Make and Tcl scripting along with Verilog HDL to describe chip functionality. In addition to adapting existing EDA tools, I am developing a Python-based tool for transforming the EDA output to SCAD which is used for 3D printing at a partner lab at BYU.In parallel to the MFDA project, I am working on design exploration for a reconfigurable MAC (ReMAC) unit used for low-power neural network computing. This involves Synopsys Design Compiler and PrimeTime for RTL synthesis and PPA analysis. Low-power MAC units will then be implemented in a systolic array architecture similar to the Google TPU and benchmarked with neural network datasets. I have used Synopsys ICC2 for floor planning of current ReMAC units as an initial physical design exploration. Both synthesis and physical design are done on the GF 12nm process node.
