Senior Placement (6 weeks): Outpatient Orthopedics

Intermediate-Senior Placement (6 weeks): Community - Home Care- Assessed and treated clients with various diagnoses and numerous comorbidities in a home care setting including stroke, COPD, Parkinson’s, dementia, CHF, THA, TKA, fractures, neuropathies, radiculopathies and musculoskeletal injuries- Evaluated clients’ needs for gait aids and home-safety equipment, and instructed clients on safe gait aid use on both level ground and stairs- Educated clients with fall prevention strategies, optimal breathing techniques and energy conservation strategies to promote self-management- Organized and assisted with transition of TKA and THA clients to community outpatient setting

Intermediate Placement (6 weeks): Outpatient Rehabilitation - Primarily Neurology- Assessed, treated and discharged clients with a variety of neurological and orthopaedic conditions such as multiple sclerosis, amputation, ABI, stroke, spinal cord injury, hip and knee replacements, peripheral neuropathy, ataxia, Parkinson’s and dementia- Provided gait retraining to clients with gait impairments, and evaluated clients’ appropriateness for gait aid as well as their potential for progression- Educated clients with amputations on pacing, expectations and prosthetic limb and stump care strategies- Organized and ensured smooth transition of clients to community exercise programs after discharge - Developed proficiency in outcome measures including the BERG Balance Scale, 10m walk test and 6-minute walk test

Junior-Intermediate Placement (6 weeks): Acute Care - Inpatient General Surgery- Assessed, treated and discharged clients with a variety of diagnoses including COPD, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, bowel cancer, chronic kidney disease, Parkinson’s and dementia- Instructed clients for safe use of gait aids and stairs- Advocated for clients who were appropriate candidates for further rehabilitation- Collaborated with various professionals as well as clients and their families by attending family meetings and nursing rounds- Developed skills in chest physiotherapy including auscultation, breathing techniques, positioning, mobilization and education to promote self-management

Junior Clinical Placement (6 weeks): Outpatient Orthopedics - Assessed, diagnosed and treated clients with a variety of diagnoses including musculoskeletal injuries following trauma, MVA and workplace injuries - Evaluated and treated clients with neurological conditions including concussion, neuropathy and radiculopathy- Developed exercise programs and appropriate progressions to guide clients towards their goals- Collaborated with various professionals in a multidisciplinary team environment

- Supervised and directed training sessions for the varsity rugby, soccer, basketball and hockey teams- Demonstrated and explained proper exercise technique and corrected form when necessary- Educated athletes on the purpose and importance of prescribed exercises to their respective sport and sport-related goals- Assisted with development of exercise programs to maximize sport-related performance
