During my Clinical Elective at the University of Pretoria, I engaged in a diverse medical environment, gaining hands-on experience in both paediatric and adult anaesthesia across various surgical specialties. This opportunity allowed me to refine my skills in airway management, peripheral and central vascular access, regional anaesthesia and multiple other anaesthetic techniques. Working closely with seasoned anaesthetists, I learned to navigate the complexities of patient care in both high-stakes emergency situations and routine elective procedures. The elective deepened my understanding of the nuanced differences in paediatric and adult anaesthesia, as well as the importance of adaptability in clinical practice. This experience has significantly enriched my medical training, equipping me with the knowledge and confidence to handle a wide array of clinical scenarios as I progress in my medical career.
