Walid is a seasoned professional with work experience in the private sector in Egypt and international organizations in the US. Over the years, he has built himself a solid practice and understanding in the fields of sustainability, governance, marketing, corporate communication, project management, prospecting and fundraising, and Social Development.Currently, he is the Network and Relationships Director at the Arab Foundations, a not-for-profit membership-based association of philanthropic foundations in the Arab region. It serves as a hub for networking, knowledge sharing and capacity building for its members and partners. We aim to foster dialogue and collaboration opportunities amongst our network in order to bolster the capacity and efficacy of strategic philanthropy in the Arab region.Walid started his career 1993 in the Marketing field and in 2002, building on his experience, he moved to head Corporate Affairs at Mansour Group and was requested to build the group’s CSR and corporate communication strategies ever since. As of 2010, Walid has moved to the United Nations Global Compact Office and became the Chief of the Local Networks and the New York Executive for the UN Global Compact Cities Programme. Over the years, Walid has built a strong network based governance model for the local networks including a clear progression model for growth and sustainability and also set a solid vetting process when launching new ones. He has also managed to put emphasis on inter countries and regional collaboration especially with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Walid supported the launch of a comprehensive SDG local action plan implementation guide which supports the businesses in understanding their vital role in their contributions to the implementation of the SDGs.Walid is also the Founding Partner and former COO of Ahead of the Curve, an Egypt based Think Tank and an independent NYC consultant where he advises several start-ups in New York on matters related to compliance and shared values creation. One of his most recent projects was with the International Rescue Committee focusing on strategic governance and prospecting in countries where the IRC does not operate to expand the revenue streams. Walid is a graduate of the American University in Cairo with a BA in Economics and currently residing in New York. He is also a Board Member at ArteEast which is a leading New York-based nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging a growing global audience with the contemporary arts of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

He developed the long term strategic plan for the local networks and oversaw its implementation based on agreed upon KPI’s and created and implemented the Local Networks Advisory Group to ensure adequate input from the Local Networks in strategic matters at the global level and ensured they had a voice in governance. Walid created and implemented the network based governance model and a progression model including guidelines for internal governance to ensure the growth and the financial sustainability of the networks over the long run, and developed a smart vetting system to establish new Local Network to ensure integrity and accountability at the global level. He developed the Local Network Sustainable Development Goals toolkit, including partnership and public policy dialogue, and ensured that the work of the local networks is aligned with the global strategy and developed training programs related to the toolkits. He also coached and directed a team of 7 international employees and oversaw 80 local networks on daily basis. With the support of his team, he organized local network forums and four regional meetings on an annual base to exchange learnings and best practices, and strengthen collaboration between the countries.
