About Walker King
In the more than three years working for Councilmember Nithya Raman's office, I've been honored to help build a team committed to effective advocacy for Council District 4's constituents. Starting as an Administrative Assistant for the office, I took charge of establishing systems and protocols as the entire City of Los Angeles adapted to a work-from-home system. After a year I was promoted to Operations Manager, and worked with our leadership to restructure how our 10-person field team responded to constituent inquiries and processed cases, meeting requests, and events in our busy council district. I first moved to Los Angeles, after graduating from the University of Chicago with a degree in Cinema and Media Studies in 2016. I initially worked in the entertainment industry as both an assistant working with an independent producer, and as a story analyst analyzing books and screenplays for top production companies. Though involved in local politics since moving to Los Angeles, I took a professional step by joining Nithya Raman's 2020 city council campaign as a staff member after being an early volunteer. As the Covid-19 pandemic upended our traditional door-to-door canvassing strategy, I worked with the campaign staff to master a new phone banking platform and build a phone banking strategy from the ground up. We leveraged our hundreds of volunteers to make more than 150,000 calls in the campaign, which ultimately became the first time a sitting LA council member was unseated by a challenger in almost 20 years.I excel at understanding systems and analyzing problems. I love working with people to see how we can solve problems that get in the way of them doing their best work. Whether it's knowing the right person to be connected with, getting a deeper understanding of the issues at play, or rethinking a process from the ground up, there's nothing more satisfying to me than a solution that solves problems months or years in the future.
