Through grant-writing, event support, and communications support I help the YW to maintain sustainable equity efforts and work to increase the impact of the YWCA’s mission in Asheville. Through hard work and dedication, I am in the practice of meeting my goals as a developing professional and challenging myself to reach my greatest potential. During my service year as a School Engagement Coordinator at Jones Elementary I have gained experience in resource coordination, event planning, public speaking, and community outreach. Managing resources such as supplemental food for 40 students, after-school programs and sponsorships, holiday support program for 67 students. Serving as liaison with various community after-school programs and community partners such as Youthful H.A.N.D., Hillcrest Enrichment Center, UNCA AVID. Supervising 75 community volunteers. Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers for students and school events. Planning and promoting school events such as Community Nights (1 per quarter), Day of Service, Career Day, 2-3 Snack Drives per year. Providing academic programming to K-5th grade students including one-on-one homework help and small group interactive learning.

The Global Connections Program is an academic program which recognizes students who incorporate global content into their university experiences by studying a foreign language, taking classes with international content, and studying abroad. The Global Connections program offers students a certificate upon graduation, but it is also a growing community bringing diverse students together. As a Student Representative for the Global Connections Program I focus on recruiting students to join through emails, meetings, presentations, as well as assisting with marketing decisions.
