Sam Waller is the national Franchisor at Stepz Fitness with a passion for changing the lives of others based on his own personal life experience. In High School, Sam suffered a serious Rugby Union accident which saw him break his back in four places. The accident nearly left him paralysed and not being able to move freely for an extended period of time while he healed. His health and wellbeing was impacted and he became obese. As Sam recovered and was able to attend rehab and re-prioritise his health and fitness, it became clear that he wanted to dedicate his life to helping others. Completing a Certificate III and IV in fitness shortly after graduating from high school, in 2010 Samuel started personal training sessions at Stepz Fitness in St Lucia. While training, he became interested in the gym and its 24/7 business model which appeared easy to run, not capital intensive, and only requiring one full-time staff member. In 2013, Sam became the youngest Stepz Fitness Franchisee when he purchased the Stepz Fitness at St Lucia, at 20 years old. As the Managing Director (of Sam Waller Fitness Pty Ltd), he took control of all aspects of the business operations, including marketing, accounts, and payroll. He grew the business to 670 members within two years and had five personal trainers working for him. After achieving the fastest growth experienced in the franchise, the founders of Stepz Fitness took notice. They identified him as someone who could take the franchise forward and awarded him the position of NSW Master Franchisee in 2015. In 2016 after spotting a large gap in the gym market, Sam created the hybrid franchise model which is now synonymous with Stepz Fitness and the first 24/7 gym and functional group training franchise was opened in Australia.In 2017, Sam took ownership of the national Stepz Fitness 24/7 franchise as Franchisor, taking his vision further, which included global expansion in the longer-term business outlook.Under his leadership, the Stepz Fitness brand has grown to 20 locations across QLD and NSW. As Franchisor, he has completed a brand evolution, improved overall club performance, increased monthly revenues and given the Franchisees more tools to better support success. As a result of these positive developments within the Franchise, expansion targets had been exceeded in the first half of the 2023 calendar year. His medium-term vision is to open 10 – 100 well performing businesses in key locations across every state in Australia.
