Continued development of a Ground Control System for a drone (Android based)and took responsibility for the drone's machine vision embedded processor.Integrated the OKVIS SLAM algorithm with the drone's autopilot to realise GPS denied orientation and location awareness. This involved a focus on adapting the code-base to run in a resource constrained environment.Wrote a new auto-pilot code-base with modern C++ architecture, including a realistic simulation environment based on AirSim. This allowed swarm to move the project forward at an accelerated pace.Using this approach we were able to quickly have a fully tested and functioning auto-pilot system, that allowed us to sucessfully win an MOD field trial for detecting gasses.Gained in-depth knowledge of Kalman filters, and an insight into Quaternion rotations for transforming vectors between body and inertial frames.

Developed hardware and firmware for a prototype 3D printer for a world leading dental equipment firm. The project required precise control toproject 3D model slices down to 5µM while ensuring an accurate and homogenous exposure of resin material.A major goal for the project was to achieve quality prints while pushingthe speed of continuous 3D printing.

Developed a bespoke, rugeddized tablet proto-type including electronics,PCB main-board and entire firmware stack.The project involved porting Android to the target SoC, and integratingcustom hardware from the custom mainboard.

At Riegl I have been been responsible for designing and implementing the next-generation of software and hardware platforms around which future 3D/2D laser scanners are designed. I have lead the embedded software team to integrate a next generation RTOS operating system (BitThunder) into devices where real-time and boot-time performance were not achievable with Linux.I have further introduced software development processes and workflow around Git and have been able to successfully improve the efficiency and speed at which the department can bring new designs to market.Through leading design and integration of embedded software projects, I have helped to foster and increase collaboration between team-members and other engineers working on related projects.Introducing continuous integration with our build system has enabled us to identify problems with firmware when committed, and manage firmware releases automatically.

I have been closely involved with some new and innovative (as yet unannounced) projects with Richard Barry (FreeRTOS). More details will be available after official product release.

I was responsible for designing and implementing various devices for smart / automated home control systems. I designed and implemented both the electronics (schematic, pcb) and full RTOS based software solutions.I also completed an IR signal decoder, allowing various devices to emulate IR control signals from third-party devices.

At Bluetechnix I was responsible for developing embedded software solutions based on analog devices' Blackfin platform. I was heavily involved in the development of a real-time operating system kernel (BlackSHEEP). During my time at BlueTechnix I re-designed and implemented the file-system sub-system allowing the operating system to reach new levels of performance.

Developed a business information system as a proof of concept for their client, (Praxis high Integrity Systems – www.praxis-his.com). There I was able to successfully complete a development project, on my own, and help present the solutions to the board of directors. The company successfully acquired a new contract as a result. I was later involved in further development work, which involved me working closely with staff at Praxis to help find solutions that allow them to concentrate on their real work.
