Coach | Teacher | Student | Implementer | Author | Fun Hog“Walt is The Self-Managing Company Guru”. Bryon Bunker – clientOver the past 17 years, I have helped over 185 companies implement EOS®.But, there is more, a whole lot more. From this experience I have learned that there are two primary scalability traps / sinkholes that snare companies as they attempt to scale, even when they have installed EOS. 1. The unclear accountability and responsibility trap that gets more complex as companies grow and 2. Is the loss of your intentional culture, the sinkhole that develops when your culture is never truly defined leaving it unmeasurable. It must be defined so it can be measured, maintained and improved as your scale. To address trap number 1, I have written books on and developed facilitations and software to support a model I call Roles-based Organizational Cognizance®. The two books are Flower Power a Handbook, and Death of the Org Chart. The two software solutions are https://flowerpower.software and https://ograph.io.To address trap number 2, I have written books on and developed facilitations and survey software to support The Seven Critical Needs / BITE7 Culture Model. The two books are Attract or Repel – BenBella Books and The Patient Organization – Forbesbooks. The facilitation and survey software are at https://BITE7.com.I help you create a scalable Self-Managing Company that will last. And we will do it FAST!We will be able to measure your progress through your financial results and your BITE Index™.Your Self Managing Company will be full of people who are bought in, feel included, demonstrate high levels of trust and are engaged. We can measure this, and when we can measure something, we can take action to improve the results.Your team will become masters of Culture, Strategy, Structure and Execution. Mastery means they can teach it to everyone who follows – you do not become reliant on Walt, I will give you systems and models to think through and teach through. I am leaving behind tools that you can leverage forever.

Coach | Teacher | Implementer | Author - Helping Create Self-Managing Companies That Last.Walt Brown.Co Aug 2006 - PresentRaleigh, Nc, UsImplementing EOS® is one step in creating a self-managing company, an important step. I am dedicated to helping my clients do this fast to get the maximum, measurable ROI from their EOS implementation investment. I am also doing a bunch of EOS Implementation "reboots" - where a company worked with an EOS Implementer a few years ago, graduated and now want to recharge their implimentaion.Clients graduate so I am always looking to add another good one. While every company is unique and requires some EOS adjustment and finesse, your organization will not be a learning guinea pig. As the 3rd EOS Implementer trained by Gino Wickman and Don Tinney in 2008, I have had the honor of guiding and graduating over 184 companies thru their EOS Journey to mastery. .Becoming a self-managing company, I help you break the cycle that pulls you into the minutia, into the day to day, into the people issues, into the things that should never need your attention ever again, but, keeps coming back up. Via EOS I help you break this cycle, slay this dragon forever and create a perpetual momentum machine so you can do the things you love to do. I wish I could say I don’t know how this feels but I do. I experienced this frustration during my first 20 years as a business owner, I have the scars and broken bones, I often felt trapped in this world with my companies and it is a drag, and really sucks. Losing momentum and having to restart things is hell on earth, absolutely not what I dreamed of when I took the risk to start my own deal. Via EOS and some serious effort we break this cycle together. If the above scenario sounds familiar, then I am worth talking to.Please reach out, I am always in help first mode. 919 345 6079 text or call. walt.brown@eosworldwide.com -
Organizational Trust And Employee Engagement Expert - Bite7Walt Brown.Co Aug 2006 - PresentRaleigh, Nc, UsAs an Organizational Trust and Employee Engagement Expert, Walt's mission is eliminating the organizational confusion and dysfunction that holds individual contributors back from being the best they can be. When these boundaries are eliminated everyone enjoys more freedom. Walt’s clients call him Uncle Walt. One client explains why: “Walt loves us, cares for us like a loving Uncle and he is fun, we like seeing him most of the time. He will tell us things we don’t want to hear and point out things we don’t want to see, he will take time to teach us, coach us on how to get better. But, at the end of the day, he is an Uncle not a parent, we do not have to listen to anything he says, and eventually, he will just go home.”He is not practicing on us or making it up. He came out of school with Accounting and Statistics degrees, did four audit seasons with E&Y, founded his first company in 1986, grew it and 3 others for 20 years, exiting in 2006. He reinvented himself as a strategy coach working with 100s of CEO clients, this led to EOS® where he is the third Implementor having gradated over 180 companies across 1,200+ off site retreat days. Recently EOS asked Walt to be the coach of the Expert Implementers. All of this experience has led Uncle Walt to categorize and capture his coaching into four separate but interdependent disciplines:The discipline of Strategic Thinking. Book: Seeing the Invisible. The discipline of Culture and Employee Engagement. Books: The Patient Organization. and Attract or RepelThe discipline of Org Structure and Design. Book: Death of the Org Chart. The discipline of Organizational Operations. EOS® Gino’s Book: Traction Get a grip on your business. These four disciplines can work independently, but, they work best when combined. The result is Freedom. Freedom for employees, owners, investors. Freedom from the bonds of Money, Time and Stress. It works.Uncle Walt - 61 Year-old Organizational Activist -
Employee Engagement Coach - Gallup Engagement And Strengthfinder CoachWalt Brown.Co Aug 2007 - PresentRaleigh, Nc, UsAs a statistics geek in college, getting hooked up with Gallup and their 12 Questions of Employee Engagement Survey (Q12) in 2007 changed my life. It gave me a way to measure the impact I was having with my clients, and, allowed a way to bench mark progress. In 2007 I was lucky enough to be part of a program where Gallup was first sticking their toe into the world of certifying outside coaches in their methods, approaches and tools, distributing their IP to the world. Via master coach Roy West I became certified in their Strengths-based approach and have applied it almost daily since.I was already a Certified EOS guy at this time and one of the first things I did with the Q12 was to try to map the Q12 questions to the tools in EOS, Traction. While this linking was effective, there were many gaps that my EOS clients had trouble getting their heads around, and when they could not get their heads around it, they could not communicate, and without simple, precise communication, they were not able to link their Q12 Survey results to their actionable tools in EOS. Understanding this gap is one of the drivers that lead to the creation of the 7 Questions at the heart of my book, The Patient Organization. The 7Q are basically measuring the same things, it is just more direct and easier for the entire organization to understand and embrace, and see linked to their OOS tools, which are normally EOS tools in my case. -
Benbella Books Author - Attract Or Repel - Favorite Bookstores March 2025Benbella Books Oct 2023 - PresentBenBella Books - The publisher of Gino Wickman's Traction and The EOS Life, and Patrick Lencioni's The 6 Working Genius along with the entire EOS® Library has signed a contract with Walt to publish his latest manuscript: Attract or Repel - Empowering your people to drive robust organizational health with BITE."This is a big deal, very few business authors get published, and to be published by BenBella... Wow! what an honor to be included in the ranks of Wickman and Lencioni and to be selected by BenBella. It is an endorsement that the BITE7 Framework has a unique place alongside these thought leaders and I am excited how the BenBella platform can help carry this important solution and message into the world – very powerful.” WaltAttract or Repel is a book about how you use an organizational operating system like EOS® to empower your people to drive measurable robust organizational health with high levels of BITE – Buy in, Inclusion, Trust and Engagement.Wickman writes: “Walt has written a great book on how to measure organizational courage, trust and engagement. "Uncle Walt" - Expert Eos® ImplementerEos Worldwide Feb 2008 - PresentBirmingham, Michigan, UsWalt is the 3rd EOS Implementer. It started with a cold call from Gino's partner Don Tinney in 2007. I was out on a mountain bike ride and got a cold call from Don (EOS Co-Founder).He told me he did a Google search for "business coaches Raleigh". I asked him what page I was on. Don replied: "Google search page 9." (Later confiding that it was page 14.I said: "Page 9!, how many guys have you called?"Don says: "You are the only one." and it came from his heart.I said: "You are sick!, I love sick people, let's talk."We had our conversation, I went to Detroit for training in Gino's session room, brought EOS back to my clients, they loved it and I have not turned back. What an awesome life gift. The backstory of “Uncle WaltWalt’s clients call him Uncle Walt. Client, John Wilson, explains why: “Well, we all know Walt loves us and cares for us like a loving Uncle and he is fun, we like seeing him most of the time. He will tell us things we don’t want to hear and point out things we don’t want to see, and he will take time to teach us, show us, coach us on how to get better. But, at the end of the day, he is an Uncle not a parent, we do not have to listen to anything he says, and eventually, he will just go home, but, we remember his wisdom because it is gold. We love Uncle Walt”The good thing is Uncle Walt is a young uncle with fresh ideas formed by tons of experience, so he is not practicing on us or making it up. He came out of school with Accounting and Statistics degrees, did four audit seasons with E&Y, founded his first company in 1986, grew it and 3 others for 20 years, ultimately selling in 2006. After selling he reinvented himself as a strategy coach working with 100s of CEO clients this led to EOS® where he is the third Implementor having gradated over 184 companies from the program across 1,400+ off site retreat days. Recently EOS asked Walt to be the head coach of the Expert Implementers. -
The Eos® Expert Implementers Head CoachEos Worldwide Nov 2022 - PresentBirmingham, Michigan, UsWow! EOS recruited Walt to be The Coach of the Expert Implementers. This is such an honor, to be surrounded by this amazing group of really smart, giving people. To become an Expert you have to have completed over 500 Client Session Days. Everyone of these people started their EOS practice with zero clients and grew their EOS business from scratch. Hard, gutsy work. They are business owners and entrepreneurs in every sense. What can I bring to them?At the end of the day this fits because I identify as a coach and have thought deeply about what coaching is. After selling my companies, I made a solid living for 4 years as an executive coach, and I enjoyed a perfect 9-0 season as a middle school football offensive line coach. (Probably learned more on that field with those young men than anywhere.) "What's up Coach Brown" the boys, now men, still say when home from college.A few words on coaching: • Coaches are unyielding students of the game they coach.• Coaches meet players where the players are.• Coaches help players play to their strengths - mentally, physically and psychologically.• Coaches bring systems and models they coach through so they, players and coach, can learn through consistency, sets and reps.• A coach's attitude is two lives working on one - it is about giving, helping, it is an in the background role.• Coaches love coaching because they actually learn from those they coach, they learn and then spread that learning - it is a huge life multiplier.Imagine how much I am going to learn. -
1St Book - Creating Buy-In, Inclusion, Trust And Engagement (Bite) To Drive Roi From Eos®The Patient Organization By Walt Brown Jul 2017 - PresentPatience in this context means: determination, moxie, grit, guts, courage with a base line of trust. This book details the 7 Question 7 Promise Framework™ explaining why today's popular Organizational Operating Systems (OOSs) EOS®, Traction, Scaling Up... fail or thrive. If you are running a system like Traction, EOS®, Scaling Up, 4Dx, Holocracy or a home-grown, organically developed OOS you owe it to yourself to study this approach to attain maximum ROI from your OOS investment. It is based on a discovery I had from working with my client teams. The discovery is this, what engages and motivates millennials at work just happens to be exactly what engages all people at work. Imagine that? Millennials are people too and via a solid OOS, we can create and maintain the foundation that drives culture, engagement, accountability and retention. The book describes the Why and How at the heart of our "7 Questions Culture and Engagement Survey". The 7 Questions and the 7Q Survey form the measurement and communication backbone needed to drive the Why in the minds of your people: "Why are we doing this crap? What's in it for me? Here we go again, another crazy idea by CEO Joe that is going to go nowhere." Clients using the 7Q approach outlined in the book experience the same performance improvement statistics that Gallup publishes about companies who raise their engagement to high levels. Gallup: 21% more profitable, 54% less turnover, 10% greater loyalty, 20% growth, 46% lower safety incidents. When you can get your people to say Yes to 7 Basic things then you can enjoy these statistics too. Yes: I Belong, I Believe, I'm Accountable, I'm Measured, I'm Heard, I'm Developed, I'm Balanced. Get 7 yeses and you will become unstoppable, and, it will be easy. Walt -
2Nd Book - Org Structure And Design To Eliminate Confusion And Dysfunction - Author | InstructorBook - Death Of The Org Chart By Walt Brown Jul 2019 - PresentMy clients and I wrote this book based on 200+ organizational structure and redesign engagements where the goal was to determine and record exactly who is doing what and why. Org charts can no longer capture the complexity inherent in modern tech-enabled organizations. What we discovered was current approaches were not up to the task of capturing the complexities in modern day organizations - so - along with client input, we created a modern day approach called the Organizational Cognizance Model™ and the 14 Point Checklist™.Death outlines the model and shares detailed facilitations and how-to you can use in your company to remove organizational confusion and dysfunction. -
Visionary - Bite7 - Measurable Intentional Culture FrameworkBite7 May 2014 - PresentRaleigh, North Carolina, UsThey say: “Culture eats execution for breakfast.” We believe culture is built on belonging, inclusion, trust and engagement, making culture measurable is the key, it is how you bring all of the 20,000 theories ton the ground. We believe if you can measure it you can improve it. As business owners what frustrates us is the mushiness around culture, the lack of definition, the inability to measure it which creates an inability to focus and work on it. We get it intuitively and in our hearts, but how do we codify and scale culture? We are like you, we can not stand listening to academics and journalists yak about Corporate Culture - What the heck is corporate culture anyway, how do you measure culture, how do you systemize it and how do you scale it?We have a Culture, Trust, Belonging and Engagement framework that our clients use to create and maintain Cultural Clarity and Consistency called, not surprisingly: The 7Q7P Culture and Engagement Framework. We measure it's effectiveness using out BITE™ Index. It is an easy to follow, measurable and actionable framework that is easy to systemize and scale. We teach this as one of the three legs of the Employee Buy-in stool. To enjoy employee buy-in we must have three things: 1. Cultural Clarity and Consistency, 2. Structural Clarity and Consistency (OCOG) and 3. Operational Clarity and Consistency (EOS). The 7Q7P Culture and Engagement Framework is how we help you attain and scale #1, Cultural Clarity and Consistency. Partner - Ocog™ Organizational Structure Coaching, Business Process FacilitationOrganizational Cognizance May 2017 - PresentWe are on a mission to remove Organizational Dysfunction and Confusion from the modern workplace. What is Organizational Cognizance?“Who is doing what, and why?” Every Modern Day CEO.“What am I doing, and why?” Every Modern Day WorkerGetting a grip on what we do at “OCog” starts with reflecting on the natural gap between the two quotes above. We teach you how to eliminate this gap, permanently!A CEO wants to quickly understand: “Who is doing what and why?” An IC (Individual Contributor) wants to be able to easily answer: “What am I doing and why?”They both want the answers to be self serve, up to date and complete. We believe everyone in a company should be given the opportunity to be organizationally cognizant from the C Suite to the frontline worker”.The utopian goal is to empower every individual contributor in any company be able to reference their Organizational Chart and answer these 14 things about their job and to visualize these 14 things as demonstrated above. These 14 items make up what we call the 14 Point Checklist of the Organizational Cognizance Model. Answer these 14 things and your organizational structure will be transparent and your organizational chart will be modern day.I know the Purpose of my Job.I know what Roles I fill as part of my Job and I know the Purpose of each of these Roles. I know who I Report To.I know who I am Mentored By.I know who to turn to for Coaching in each of my PositionsI know the Objectives I am pursuing and how they align with Co. Architect - Co Founder - Ograph - Organizational Knowledge Graph SoftwareOgraph Jan 2020 - PresentDEATH TO THE ORG CHART, INTRODUCING YOUR ORGANIZATIONAL GRAPH We believe the usefulness of the classic Org Chart has reached its limit. Modern day organizations are much more complicated than the reporting structures of old. Sure we still need to understand who we report to and what others in our organization look like, but, there is so much more.MEET OGRAPH, THE FIRST ORGANIZATIONAL GRAPH SOFTWARECEO: Who is doing what, and why?Individual Contributor: What am I doing, and why?We are on a mission to create organizational cognizance for everyone in the company, from the CEO who is asking “Who is doing what, and why?”, to the individual contributor who wants to know “What am I doing, and why? Imagine two sides of a coin, on one side your CEO can see and understand why we are hiring a new person and on the other side a new individual contributor (IC) starting with your firm can answer “What am I doing and why?” – both able to see and understand how the answers complete the Organizational Cognizance Model™ via this org graph software. -

Co-Founder Seven Questions Seven Promises Framework - Rebranded To Bite77Q7P - Seven Questions. Seven Promises May 2017 - Jun 2021Raleigh, North Carolina, UsLosing momentum sucks! As a CEO or Owner being pulled back into the day to day, back into the minutia, back into the people issues, back into the things that should really never need our attention ever again robs us of energy, creativity and the joy we should have from assuming the risks of starting and building a company. This is not what we signed up for.We call this the momentum loss cycle, and we have lived it ourselves, we know how it feels, we hate it too, and we are here to help you eliminate it forever. How?The root belief at 7Q7P is this: An organization, your company, is a FICTION. A fiction that is only given meaning, power and energy by those who buy-in. It does not matter if we have 10 or 10,000 people, if 70% buy-in to this and 30% buy-in to that, then we have two organization, and we have already been divided and we are on our way to being conquered. We know how this feels and in all likelihood, so do you.We help you permanently eliminate the divide and teach you how to create buy-in, stopping the momentum loss cycle forever. What does it take to create to buy-in? It is simple, but, not easy. In order to create buy-in we must have three things working in tandem. We need Cultural clarity and consistency, Structural clarity and consistency, and Operational clarity and consistency. When we do the hard work to create clarity and install consistency systems that automatically hone this clarity, then the individuals in our companies are the ones who buy-in, pick it up and keep it moving; not us as CEOs or Owners. Our employees embrace the clarity and consistency we create, they add their power and energy and it becomes a perpetual momentum machine, one single organization. At 7Q7P, this is what we help you create, it is our purpose, cause and passion. Everyday we wake up to our goal to be the best in the world at helping you create perpetual momentum.Go here to discover the first step. https://7q7p.com -
Winning Sail Trim Speed Guy, Tactician, Us Sailing MemberUs Sailing 1984 - 2012Bristol, Ri, UsSailboat Racing is a Team Sport and the team is called a crew.As crew, part of a team, I enjoyed winning these events with my team mates: Key West Race Week, Miami Race Week, St. Pete NOODs, Charleston Race Week, Swan Newport Rolex Regatta, Antigua Race Week... winning as a team feels great. While this is not "Work". It has been an avocation of mine for most of my life. Think the likes of Roy Patrick Disney, Ted Turner, Ellison of Oracle, Bill Koch of Koch Industries. These are just a few of the outstanding business people who race sailboats. Why is it relevant? I was an outside guy who was invited into competitive sailing teams. My role was "to get the boat moving". The teams were from 8 to 17 guys. There was always the owner, and all the politics that went into any team. To "get the boat moving" I had to work with everyone on the boat, it was always a complete team effort. As the top trimmer on board, I was accountable for making the boat go fast for the conditions. I am an expert sail trimmer and rig tune dude. Coupled with being able to see the wind on the water I brought a lot of horse power to each boat team I raced with. I was recruited to sail on boats owned and raced by New York Yacht Club members. Teams of 17 sailing on 56 foot long boats with 86 foot tall carbon fiber masts. These boats included active America's Cup crew along with "Walt the guy who flies in Eastern NC Bar-b-que for the crew in Block Island." We won our class at world class events like Key West Race Week, Annapolis Race Week, Newport Swan Regatta... etc. Sailboat racing is a complex sport dealing with many uncertainties, the weather and the wind, but, results were always anchored with team work, specific accountability and detailed preparation. Skill was taken for granted. The tactics, strategy, discipline, and communication involved in campaigning yachts comes to bear on my work in the room with business leadership teams almost every day.I love to win as a team. -
Strategic Thinking Coach, Peer Board Facilitator - (Smart State Was The Firm)The Alternative Board (Worldwide) Aug 2006 - Dec 2010Denver, Colorado, Us2019 - I still do a whole lot of the Strategic Thinking and Tactical Execution work that I focused on with Owners and Teams during my Smart-State Years inside of my EOS practice. Using Harvard's and McKinsy's proven "Critical Success Factor Method" to strategic planning we did Alignments, Turnarounds, Restarts, Good to Greats with Owners and Leadership teams. The CSF Method began life at McKinsey and Company in 1961 and then was fleshed out at Harvard in the early '80, where it is still taught as a key component of business thinking and strategic planning.Business Leadership Simplified - is the tag line of Smart-State, we, me and a group of coaches use The Alternative Board and the EOS process to help privately held businesses get a grip on their decisions and their organizations.Combined TAB and EOS make Smart-State - Simplifying Business Leadership -

As President of Shows I was the Board seat that was accountable for these shows being robust running a profitable $16 million budget. I had a great team of SA Staff Members who basically carried this ball for me. I just got to accept the glory from their hard work. Was/is a great, fun, smart organization and board. I am honored to have served. -
Founder, Visionary, Ceo, Exit Architect 1986 - 2006Layline Sep 1986 - Aug 2006At age 25, after 4 Audit Seasons as a CPA with Ernst and Whinney, Walt founded Layline Yacht Racing Equipment, launching a North American focused Mail Order Catalog from the Shed in his Fathers' back yard. The tag line was, "The latest and the best, shipped out fast, 100% guaranteed". Our Core Values were: Positive, Cheerful, Cognizant, Challenge your work, and 3 Questions first.Over the years, the business grew from a Full Color Printed National Retail Catalog morphing into a consumer direct .COM internet model with over 8700 Html pages serving a customer base of 132,000 house holds.Like most successful startups we ultimately found our money maker, we proved that we were also great at "turning around" European Consumer Brands that were floundering in the US Market. We became experts at US Brand Building, Marketing and Sales Support that drove a separate, robust, Import, Distribution and Sales business for us. These companies had combined Rev of $30 million. Musto, Dubarry and Tacktick were the three brands we built.Separately, Layline was very seasonal business with a little less than $10 m in annual sales so the total revenue was a little under $40 million. The seasonality taught a ton of very valuable adjustment and strategic lessons that I have carried forward and often share with my clients. After 20 years at the helm, I took the next step and I sold Layline Inc to one of my customers in 2006.Layline was a great company where the Freedom of ownership was delivered to me and the freedom of an organization that was healthy and effective was loved by my team mates. -
President Dubarry North AmericaDubarry Of Ireland Sep 1999 - Jul 2006County Galway, IeDubarry Ireland was one of the European brands we imported, marketed and distributed.During my Layline Days this was a company I lead in parallel.
