I’m Walter Reyes, a dedicated finance student at Missouri State University passionate about making financial knowledge accessible and empowering others through strategic financial planning. As a first-generation student from Carthage, Missouri, with Guatemalan roots, I bring a unique perspective to my studies and campus involvement. My journey has been driven by a commitment to growth, advocacy for underrepresented voices, and a love for building connections.At Missouri State, I’m working toward a Bachelor’s in Finance with a minor in Marketing, maintaining a 3.94 GPA while balancing leadership roles across campus. Serving as a Student Orientation and Registration Leader (SOAR) has taught me the importance of empathy and adaptability as I guide new students through key steps in their college journey. As a University Ambassador, I provide campus tours that highlight our programs and community, aiming to create a welcoming environment for prospective students and their families.Beyond academics, I’m committed to building my professional and financial skills. As a Shift Lead at Smoothie King, I manage cash flow, lead a team, and ensure daily operational efficiency. Additionally, my role as Treasurer for the Tabula Rasa Theater Company has shown me the value of financial transparency and responsibility.Involvement in extracurriculars has been a core part of my college experience. As a Bears Lead Ambassador, I support other first-generation students in building public speaking and leadership skills. I’m also a member of Ursi Latinx and the PRIDE Marching Band, where I embrace my cultural heritage and passion for music, finding a sense of community and support.Looking forward, I’m excited to pursue a career as a financial advisor and, ultimately, to establish a nonprofit in Guatemala focused on financial education for local communities. I truly believe in the power of financial literacy to drive meaningful change.
