I have worked as a self-employed independent Telecommunications Safety Consultant since retiring from NYNEX (now Verizon). This has included a variety of special projects for Verizon such as assisting the Corporate Safety Staff with updating Safety Compliance programs, making 3 safety training videos (Electrical Safety, Ladder Safety, Manhole Safety (Test, Purge, Ventilate). I am also the primary Safety Consultant for U-TECK, the major supplier of manhole gas detection equipment to Verizon & FairPoint Communications, including training on the proper use of gas detectors in conjunction with their manhole safety programs, and the required annual certification of this equipment in the field at Verizon & FairPoint garage locations in New England & New York. I also have provided electrical safety training services for Telco-Sales, a major provider of the FVD (Foreign Voltage Detector) to companies such as Verizon & Cox Communications. I am also currently assisting the Verizon Corporate Safety Staff as a "Third Party Safety Observer" in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island area.

Responsible for Chairing the joint Verizon/IBEW New England Craft Rating Exam process for SST's & OPT's. This included ensuring that candidates for rating had a thorough knowledge of the Verizon General Rules & all safety related matters that pertain to their work assignment as an SST or OPT.

Delivered Verizon developed training (both classroom and hands-on) in "Manhole Safety & Set-Up", "Work Area Protection", "Personal Protective Equipment", "Electrical Safety" "Ladder Safety", and "Aerial Lift Safety".

Reported to the 2nd Level Manager for Corporate Safety in New England & New York. Was assigned safety related special projects such as: Field Safety Compliance Audits, Accident Prevention Plan implementation, developing safety related methods & procedures, etc. Also assisted the Bell Atlantic Regional Safety Manager in 1998 with field safety storm restoration activities in the Watertown, NY area for 6 weeks after a major ice storm caused significant damage to the telecommunications infrastructure. Also assisted the Corporate Safety Staff in the Syracuse, NY area in September of 1999 after a "Micro-Burst" resulted in significant outside plant infrastructure damage.

Delivered National Safety Council training both in-house at the Safety Council in Braintree, MA & in the field at Safety Council member locations for such companies as Coca-Cola, & Texas Instruments). Courses included: "Lock-Out/Tag-Out","Defensive Driving", "Coaching the Utility Truck Driver", "Accident Investigation Techniques", " Confined Space", & "Fire Prevention. Also, based on experience and technical knowledge, I was awarded the designation as a Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA).

Reported directly to the Vice-President for MA/RI. Was responsible for ensuring field compliance with all facets of the NYNEX Accident Prevention Plan for all work groups. Retired from NYNEX (now Verizon) as a full-time employee at the end of April 1996, after 33 years of service.

Directed the field installation of voice and data services & communications for 6 cities & towns in the Greater Boston area, including Dorchester, Dedham, & Roxbury. Responsibilities included: safety, quality, productivity & service performance for a work force of 8 First Level Managers & 150 SST's at 4 garage locations. Additionally, was responsible for overseeing the Loop Assignment Center, and the Installation Control Center in Dedham, MA, a work force of 12 Facility Assigners, 6 Clerical personnel, and 5 Managers. Responsible for maintaining high levels of customer service & satisfaction, meeting wage and non - wage expense and capital budgets, manager development and training including ongoing coaching, quarterly, midyear and annual perfomance appraisals with corrective action plans as needed.

Reported directly to the Safety Director for New England Telephone (now Verizon). Was responsible for ensuring field compliance with all facets of the Bell System Accident Prevention Plan for all work groups in 5 New England States (MA, RI, ME, NH, VT) . Also responsible for tracking accident/injury statistical data, & developing safety related improvement & compliance plans as required. Also attended the Bell System Safety Professional (BSSP) training center in Houston, Texas and subsequently was certified as a BSSP.

Reported to the Staff Director for Customer Service in the New England area. Responsibilties included the development of Installation methods & procedures designed to improve customer service & satisfaction as well as quality & productivity. Also conducted field audits to ensure compliance with the above programs.

Primary responsibilty was as the Installation Control Manager for a work force of 4 Field Managers & 40 Technicians in the Quincy (MA) District. This included interfacing with the Quincy Business Office to match daily "force & load" requirements, loading & routing the daily work load for the Technicians, & ensuring the completion of that load within established quality, productivity, budgetary, & service level objectives. Also filled in for the Field Managers in the Quincy District as necessary.

I was assigned as a Central Office Technician at the Harrison Avenue facility in Downtown Boston from 1963 to 1969. My duties included the wiring of service orders at the Main Frame, & Intermediate Distribution frame, trouble shooting CO equipment related problems, and correcting or repairing any switching equipment related problems found. I attained both the "Panel B" & then "A" Ratings. In late 1969, I took a "bid" & transferred to the Quincy (MA) garage as an SST, responsible for the installation & repair of residential & business customer service in that area. I attained both the "Combination B" & then the "PBX" Ratings.
