Graduated from Law School in 1965. Called to the Bar in 1967. I opened my own practice in 1968 in downtown Toronto, where I have been located for 41 years. My first clients of any note were anti-Vietnam War demonstrators who I defended in an era where there was no Charter of Rights and Freedoms in Canada. My early professional experience never left me, while I disagreed with the political objectives of my first clients, I had no trouble representing them as I saw in defending the unpopular I was defending all of us.Since those early days I have maintained a civil liberties approach to my practice. Most recently, I have been involved in the political struggle to change Family Law in an effort to limit the economic and emotional harm it does to men and their children and the larger community, which I see as a present day civil liberties issue. In this connection, I have been counsel on two extended inquests which dealt with domestic violence. For many years, I have been a regular contributor and commentator to radio and television programs dealing with issues in Canadian Criminal Law.Over the yearsI have had the privilege of appearing with Peter Gzowski,Don Herron and Michael Enright.I have also appeared on Studio Two with Steve Paikin and Paula Todd. I have published on Criminal aspects of Business Law in The Globe and The National Post.The Walter Fox & Associates team consists of myself, my Associate Sayeh Hassan, and an Articled law student.Marlene Gold is the Office Manager.Specialties: I have developed a criminal law practice, with all of the usual criminal law components, with an emphasis on white collar crimes, and very little in the way of street violence. I have sucessfully defended several murder charges, and large scale frauds as well as several very large drug conspiracies.In 2008 I defended my client to an acquittal in the Supreme Court of Canada in a decision which affected the law on search and seizure across Canada (the Sniffer Dog case)
